PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 Europe RMR AFalcons to miss Copenhagen Major after loss to AMKAL
zonic and Magisk are denied the chance to defend their Paris title.
Falcons will not be at the Copenhagen Major after a stunning loss to AMKAL. The intense three-map series will haunt the former ENCE core, who lost on Ancient despite 131 ADR from captain Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer and then went 0-5 in clutches on the Mirage decider.
The world No. 7 had been the protagonists of the off-season as Danny "zonic" Sørensen sought to build a new challenger and came into the RMR off the back of a top-four finish in Katowice, but could not convert any of that momentum and were individually poor as Igor "Forester" Bezotecheskiy and Kaisar "ICY" Faiznurov put them to the sword.
The loss means that Magisk and zonic will not get the chance to defend their Paris Major title, while they and Snappi are also denied a tilt at a home Major on Danish soil.
The match started on script, with Snappi's men prevailing in a scrappy back-and-forth early on Vertigo before securing a 13-6 win.
What followed, however, veered wildly off that path. Ancient was dominance from AMKAL, with all of Falcons eerily quiet apart from a stellar captain's performance from Snappi.
Multi-kill after multi-kill followed from the skipper, but Falcons were wasteful with man advantages and picked apart in defaults and succumbed to an 8-13 defeat.
They got back on track on Mirage, storming to a 7-3 lead before a 2vs4 from ICY and Forester sparked AMKAL into life.
More clutches followed, and Falcons' lead disappeared as quickly as they had earned it. Their T side was lacking once again. Down 9-12, Snappi had to resort to full executes and spawn calls to get them back into the match and force overtime.
In overtime, another key clutch went AMKAL's way with Forester catching Snappi napping and winning a heads-up duel with Álvaro "SunPayus" García in a round that sealed Falcons' heartbreak and elimination.
AMKAL, meanwhile, enter the 2-2 pool as serious dark horses to make the Major, with Forester and ICY heating up and the Aleksei "NickelBack" Trofimov-led core looking a far cry from the level they displayed in their opener versus NIP.
