jL: "We may not win the Major, but we want to make a deep run"

The Lithuanian rifler says NAVI will play with this five-man lineup for the foreseeable future.

Natus Vincere came into the Europe RMR as one of the favorites to make it through to the Copenhagen Major, and they did so with a 3-1 record. Their only loss came against Virtus.pro, as the Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen-led team showed some solid performances on their way to securing a Legends Stage spot.

Despite all this success, the future of the roster remains shrouded in uncertainty. Valeriy "b1t" Vakhovskiy's future is subject to rumors, and the organization still has Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev on the bench, but Justinas "jL" Lekavicius said the team intends to stick with this lineup.

After their win against BetBoom in Bucharest, the Lithuanian spoke to HLTV about his expectations for the Major, his individual form, and the future of Natus Vincere's roster.

How does it feel to qualify for your first Major with NAVI?

It feels fucking amazing. And we also got the Legends stage, and it's truly an amazing experience. [Editor's Note: The seeding will be determined by Valve's Regional Standings, which will be published after March 4, as PGL clarified on Friday]. I don't think the game with Apeks was as important as this because we really wanted to get to the Legends stage. It gives us more time to practice, more time to observe and fix what's wrong. We played super well on Nuke, kept our composure, and there are a lot of great emotions right now.

Talking about this series against BetBoom. Overpass was pretty straightforward for you guys, but the other two maps were a lot closer. What helped you win the match in the end?

I made the speech to the boys, and I think it affected us a lot. I said, "Stop feeling sorry for yourself and stop making excuses inside your own head, because the game is in our hands. It's not going to win by itself, and if you're going to lose, you are the only one to take the blame for it. Stay composed, cold-blooded, hype each other up, and play the game."

You played at a Major before with Apeks, and it went pretty well. Do you think you can do something similar again?

Of course, who's there to stop us? I think we have the right team to do it. We have our slumps, we have our struggles, but the level of CS we can show on our best day, or an average day, is way higher than the team at Apeks. I feel like we can adapt to the lower-tier teams at the Major. We're going into some games as the overdog, but it shouldn't faze us. If we keep the right mentality, we should get it in the bag. Of course, we may not win the Major, but we want to make a deep run and show a really good standing of where we are.

You now have about a month unti the Major. Is there anything specific that you guys need to work on?

There's always something to work on. Improve our map pool and change a little bit, because there's a lot of time to prepare and a lot of data on us right now. You can't go into every single game changing up things, but now we have time to change. We'll have a long bootcamp, and I hope we use it wisely because our first bootcamp was super effective, and we should do the same thing again.

I talked to you at EPL last year, and you told me that you were signed to perform in CS2, not CS:GO. Are you happy with your individual performances right now?

Right now, I don't think they're bad. I think I have averaged higher than 1.10 in the last month. Of course, there's the inflation of CS2 and MR12 and all that stuff, but I'm happy with my improvement. Maybe the stats are not showing it, but I'm thinking way more about the game in better detail and with higher standards. So if I continue [like this], I think I have a bright future.

There have been some rumors surrounding the team about b1t leaving, and you still have s1mple on the bench. Is this on the back of your mind when you play?

Of course, you're always scared the CS:GO goat is going to replace you. [laughs] I'm only joking, there is nothing. We're staying as a five-man core, and we're playing like that. Unless something bad happens or we have an injury, I don't think s1mple is coming back to the roster.

2019. After that he's maintained a high level of play, whereas many other T1 teams have raised up and dropped out in the meanwhile. Arguably Aleksib personally is better now than he was then

Rather classic hltv bot expecting igl to be the carry of the team in all senses. There ain't a single igl who'd claim the mvp award in a tournament in the past... how many years again? About 8-9? His rating in that tournament was 1.02 which is higher than IGL's normally get. Not to mention their yesterday's game against BB. When his team wasn't showing up, he ended up being the highest rated player on the server with a 1.19 impact. Talk about being in denial Also if your brain tumor would allow your eyes to check the teams taking part in that particular tournament (or just the name of the tournament which is BLAST), you could see it is very much a tier 1 tournament, including Na'vi and prime astralis

Na'Vi is truly the Real Madrid of Counter-Strike , when there is a huge prospect, they just get him no matter what, that's what they did with young GuardiaN, electronic, s1mple, flamie and b1t . I understand that politics mean that donk will never play for navi, but international? this is fucking ridiculous, if you are Ukranian not fakeflagging, you know all ukranian pros and semi pros dream of playing in Na'Vi , the talent to make an Ukranian superteam is there with or without s1mple. s1mple b1t demq zont1x sdy. dont like s1mple? w0nderful instead of s1mple, oh but zont1x wont leave spirit? headtrick will surely leave NiP. w0nderful b1t headtr1ck demq sdy That Na'Vi would be a lot better than this Na'Vi. The scene right now is in a better place than it was on 2023, but it is still a bit soulless, Na'Vi has to be 5 slav russophone squad, Sweden needs to have at least 1 competitive team, and above all, s1mple needs to come back.

Ever since 2023, international teams have become the meta. Stop being so nationalistic and just accept the fact that life goes on with or without you. Yes, a lot of people including myself miss having national teams at the top, but international teams are not soulless just because they're not a national team.

It's the only other option that NaVi had. They cannot and will not play with Russians in the foreseeable future because of politics. Ukrainian players will play with Russian players, but Ukrainian orgs will not touch a Russian player with a six foot pole.

Thank you for further educating me. I was also wrong to say and imply that "politics" is the sole cause of war. Both of those documentaries - if that is the correct phrase / term - are very heartbreaking. Innocent people were and still are being targeted for no good reason. In situations like these, there is a feeling of helplessness, at least for me because there is nothing I can do to help unless you consider self-education and spreading awareness as help. I cannot fight for them physically, nor will any amount of money I could ever donate would do much for those affected aside from providing them with basic necessities. Is is truly a tragedy as war is nothing but ugly because in the end, nobody is the real winner due to so many human lives being lost.

blud navi aint winning any major until iM gets back his paris form. I hope he does shine this major and then afterwards so that we can win the next one, but if he doesnt we get s1mple back on rifle and then we have chances if Valerchik is back in form.

Funny how there's people saying that he's jinxing their run being arrogant and others implying he's not confident enough with both referring to the same quote.

Only way for navi to win any T1 trophies is that S1mple comes back with better mentality. But I don't know why they get so much hate, they are playing pretty well considering the players they have. People were saying they are going to be a top 30 team with this roster but they were top 3 like week ago.

I'm not at all talking about bullshitting from mouth to please everyone, but about having higher confidence and mentality. if they were underdogs, then sure it'd have been all bullshitting but this roster has already proven how high their skill ceiling can be after all these months together based on how jL interviewed, I feel that there's some lack of confidence within the roster to make it more than just a deep run

fair take, but imo it's more about taking the pressure off not to fuck with your own head (or teammates'). Nothing worse than becoming your own enemy and these are still relatively inexperienced guys, not everyone is like s1mple, some need calm smaller steps to show their best - just how iM and jL actually reached finals in Paris.

Deep runs will eventually kick you out of the team , if you don't win anything in the end than those deep runs doesn't mean anything. I believe NAVI is making changes right after the major.

NaVi is aiming to be a dominant, Major-winning team. But they understand that building such a team and implementing a system takes time. You have to understand that three of their current players were still playing T2 just a year ago and this full lineup has only been together for under half a year. Going for a deep run is just a realistic goal at this point in time. You can't expect to win the major over all the other great teams just yet. Like they might do it if they get good match-ups and find a great form at just the right time. But even if they go out in semi-finals against an on-point Vitality, FaZe, Spirit for example, it's gonna be enough for now. Then if s1mple wants to return, they need to consider bringing him back. But if s1mple doesn't want to return to the NaVi lineup and they do well enough in this Major, there's no need for changes.

Of course I understand completely the situation and everything you said. It's just not great PR to put out something like "we may not win the major". Better to keep it simple and just say we'll take it one match at a time.

Funny how everyone’s good with this version of Na’Vi squad forgetting how much they spent on it. Selling m0NESY was the biggest mistake. Selling elec-perf duo was okay apart from what they got for the money. Even tho C9 sucks now that duo is still >> Jl im duo Just spend some more money and buy a fkin superstar for once

Holy hell some of these comments are retarded, no players of any traditional sports say they're going to win the championship or whatever, they're aiming for it but they don't say it to not put unnecessary pressure on themselves and their team, the comments really show that some of the HLTV commenters are really delusional when it comes to competitive scenarios typical HLTV though not a surprise.

nah, based on the context, this likely heavily refers to after the major rather than before since it came from the question mentioning the b1t leaving rumors and s1mple still benched while also considering s1mple is planning his return after Copenhagen concludes.
