Gizmy on subbing in for Monte: "I was going to a uni lecture when my coach called me"
The British player says the situation unfolded very quickly.

Monte came into PGL Major Copenhagen Europe RMR B as one of the favorites to make it through, but their chances took a massive hit after Viktor "sdy" Orudzhev was ruled out due to illness.

Monte Gen player Jack "Gizmy" von Spreckelsen was brought into the team to replace the Ukrainian star, and while the British rifler attended BLAST.tv Paris Major RMR with Viperio, the call-up still meant a big step for the youngster.
Despite the roster turmoil, Monte ended the first day of the RMR with a 1-1 record after their win against Nexus. After the match, Gizmy talked to HLTV about his experience in Romania, his role in the team, and the chaotic nature of the last few days.
You finish day one of the RMR with a 1-1 record. Are you happy with what you achieved today?
I'd say I'm content with what happened. It could have gone better, we could have won the first game, but I think going 1-1 at a minimum is really important. It means you get the best-of-one the next day, and also, it is really hard to play from 0-2. So overall, I'm pretty happy.
How do you feel about your individual performance today?
My individual level has been pretty good. Most of the time I'm dying out of confusion, not because I'm missing shots. I'm subbing in, and I haven't played at all with the team. I don't know how all the small details work, but other than that, I think I'm shooting pretty well. I'm happy with that.
Did they slot you in sdy's roles?
Yeah, I've slotted in all his roles. Most of his roles are the same as mine, but there were some challenges, especially with that Anubis game. Even though I'm taking the Mid roles that he plays, especially on the CT side, my team, Monte Gen, plays quite a bit differently from how Monte plays, so it was hard to adapt to that. But I'm working to adapt to their style as well as implement my own game for the rest of the tournament.
I think sdy brings a lot to the team, a bunch of stability and support with how he plays. So it's definitely hard to replace him, they're missing out on a lot, but I'm trying to live up to all of the good things he does.
Monte play another best-of-one tomorrow. Will you play or will sdy return?
I'm not sure, it all depends on whether he feels better or not.
The change was announced on Saturday, but did you know a few days before that? Walk me through the last few days from your perspective.
I woke up on Thursday and was going to a uni lecture when my coach called me and said I will be subbing in. So they booked flights on Thursday, and I left on Friday. I spent the whole day traveling on Friday and then got here Friday night. Then I just spent Saturday and Sunday watching them play and trying to learn how they do things.
