Guild Eagles send Nexus packing from RMR

The Romanian squad is the first team eliminated from the Europe RMR B group.

Guild Eagles stay alive in their campaign at the PGL Major Copenhagen qualifier following a 2-1 win over Nexus in the first elimination match of the second European group. The Romanian side bows out of the competition with a 0-3 record after having previously lost best-of-one matches to Astralis and Monte on the opening day of the competition.

Flatron "⁠juanflatroo⁠" Halimi & co. still have a mountain to climb on their quest to qualify for what would be their fourth consecutive Major. They will next play on Wednesday, facing off another team in the 1-2 pool, which also boasts Astralis, OG, Monte, GamerLegion and one of PERA or Preasy.

Their campaign so far has been shaky. In their opening match, Guild Eagles gave up a 9-3 and 12-8 lead on Ancient against MOUZ, and in the second they were outclassed by ENCE on Anubis.

The Kosovar team were favorites for the first time when facing off against Nexus, the lowest-ranked team in attendance of the European Major qualifier, but had to fight through a three-map series to survive in the tournament.

The series began on Mirage, where Guild Eagles cruised to an 8-4 lead on the T side led by Rigon "⁠rigoN⁠" Gashi, who finished the half with an impressive 20 kills and a 145 ADR.

Nexus kept themselves in the game with a well-coordinated A push in the pistol round and enjoyed a spell of dominance, taking the lead without dropping a single round. With rigoN looking off, it was juanflatroo who came to Guild Eagles’ rescue. He racked up nine kills as the team saved face with a 5-0 run just when things were about to spiral out of control.

The two teams looked inseparable on Vertigo after the first half went 6-6, but once on the defense Nexus only lost two close scenarios on the B bombsite, and a risky forcebuy decision backfired on Guild Eagles as they lost the economy game in the final rounds of the map.

It came down to Ancient, where Guild Eagles dominated from the start. They converted the 5-0 run at the beginning of the T side into an 8-4 half, and from there stayed in control after also starting off the second half with a pistol win.
