If their stars perfom like in kato 2023 they will probably, but they have problem with that usually it's just one or two and the others are sleeping That is why they have poor results considering the players they have

thing is, if NiKo and m0nesy perform at their high level, you don't need hunter to be at MVP level, they just need to get theirs and niko and m0nesy will carry them, ofc against teams like faze and spirit and vitality they'll need the full firepower

I don't know, I'm pretty sure I read a bunch of them sometime before the RMRs or open&closed qualifiers, but can't remember where. But I do know for a fact that s1mple is NaVi's 6th.

He isn't attending or qualified for it, though. Even if he plays as the substitute potentially, that doesn't change the fact he didn't qualify for it on the main roster.

Still how can you say his major streak is broken if he ends up playing there anyway and in the most extreme case even win the whole event? Is it qualified on the main roster streak or playing in major streak?

Because that would be a technicality, not an actuality. The record is for Major contention on an active roster or qualifications, not merely cheating the system by turning up to potentially play, otherwise that wouldn't really be a record.

No. If he plays in the major, maybe even every game for all we know, it would be a technicality, not an actuality, to say that he didn't attend the major. You can then put an asterisk on his record and tell everyone that "uhhm acchually he didnt qualify on main roster so achually it was only a technicality attending the games and not him". If you care so much about it, that is.

Ask yourself is that fair, though? Dupreeh's record was broken because Preazy failed to qualify for the Major, they also don't have any names on any Major stickers because they have not officially qualified for the Major; why would it be different for s1mple just because he is attending as a potential substitute? You're also banking on the likelihood that s1mple potentially plays, so if s1mple doesn't play, does that mean that the record is broken or not? If Dupreeh attends the Major as a spectator, does that also mean that his record also stands? IF s1mple 'plays' at the Major, it would likely stand as a technicality because he would be playing as a substitute, not as a player on the active roster. I can't see there being an asterisk over the record when the record already stands as is.

"is that fair" Who tf cares? It's a trivia question at best, not something you go to the bank to cash in for a million dollars. I can guarantee you that if s1mple plays, basically no one will care about this technicality that he was a substitute. He played and that's that. The same works the other way around if he doesn't wind up playing. Everyone will remember that he didn't attend, even though he technically was listed as a substitute.

"Who tf cares? It's a trivia question at best, not something you go to the bank to cash in for a million dollars." Well, that depends on you, friend. It's an interesting point to bring up and that is why I wanted to respond to you. Fairly certain people will care about that sort of thing if s1mple plays, but we probably have different opinions on that. Unless Major attendances count substitutes, which I don't think that it does, I guess it remains to be food for thought, for what it's worth. IF it does happen, I'm pretty certain that it would be the first for a Major to officially use a substitute that I can think of, if you don't count RMR's.
2024-03-11 22:21

It's rare and interesting, that's why I raise the question. There's a certain grey area if he plays a game or two and let's say NaVi lose both. Does that count for anything and should it? Probably not in all fairness. But there's also the unlikely scenario, that he plays most of the games and they win the whole event with him, maybe even because of him if all the stars align. Of course, usually having to use a substitute is a certain death sentence, but having s1mple in the sidelines is a special circumstance, that might very well lead to some very weird outcomes. So in my opinion it's pretty dumb to outright decide that his attendance as an official substitute categorically doesn't constitute to absolutely anything.

That's like saying Olof won Antwerp because he was on Faze's bench. It makes no sense. He is not a starter on Navi and it's not expected for anyone on that team to be subbed out for him. IF he does sub in, then yes his streak would stay intact. That's speculation so HLTV is just going to make the safe bet and say he isn't attending because it's most likely true.

Unexpected things sometimes happen. HLTV is not making a safe bet by speculating that he won't attend. The safe bet is to see what happens in the major.

He is not going to the major. Navi is indicating so. Nobody on the team is alluding to it. We know that everyone seems relatively healthy. There is zero reason to believe it. HLTV is not posting speculation. They don't talk about "unexpected things." They talk about the expected. That's how the news works. They inform us about what is expected to happen. S1mple not making the major is expected by all parties involved from HLTV to Navi to the dude himself. That doesn't mean it can't be wrong, but it's more than enough to make it a factual statement.
2024-03-12 04:21

The only speculation here is your made up scenario and considering your made up scenario you should not be using either “speculation” or “safe bet” in your posts regarding this.

If you think like that, HLTV should also put people like Obama on the rookie list, because i mean it could eventually happen. Maybe multiple people on Complexity get sick so he gets to play. Ofc s1mple playing is much more likely because he is listed as a sub but i think even if someone from navi falls out B1ad3 might play. S1mple could potentially play but 99.99% it won't happen. You need to think about what actually happened and whats most likely instead of thinking about every possible scenario that can happen. He might get to play and continue his streak but most likely he won't and its broken

Ok but he MUST BE at substitute list to be allow to play. Following that, he cant be on different list. Imagine situation when flacons goes 3-x, then 3-x to legens and play vs navi, which have s0mple at their substitute list. Its not like they told pgl 'oh dont worry hes on loan only for opener', the rules are a player cant be on two teams substitue/main list

It basically means Major Rookies, whats so hard to understand? You read an arcticle which is about 10 things to know about the MAJOR and the section ROOKIE is displaying ROOKIES of a MAJOR. Every normal thinking person should get that its talking about Major rookies and not rookie players in general.

again, language doesn't care that you're ignorant. Words have meaning. Rookie means new player. the title should have been "first major attendees". I understood what they meant, but pointed out the mistake anyway.

You've just proven my point lol Rookie = new player so... Major Rookie = the player is new to a major If you only read point two and after 10 seconds already forgot that the news is about the major its not their problem. They could've phrased it like "The Major is full of rookies" but since the news contains facts about the major its obvious what they meant.
2024-03-12 21:34

No I have not. You saying that doesn't make it true. Add "proven" to the list of words you don't know the meaning of. Again, I perfectly understood what they meant. But the meaning of rookie doesn't change. Being new to a setting doesn't make you a rookie. Again, language does not care about your ignorance of it. You don't twist words to your liking, you don't invent a new language. It does not matter what you think, words have meaning.

Let me give you an example because apparently you struggle with logic : in the NBA, players are called rookies when they play their first year, even though most of them have a least some experience playing basketball at the pro level. That's because the NBA literally has its own rules. The International Federation of Basketball and the NBA rules differ in MANY ways : foul and throw rules, duration of the games, 3 pts line distance and even the size of the fkn court. The major is just a tournament, they play the same game, on the same maps, with the EXACT same rules as in other tournaments. I'm putting some words in caps to make sure your simple mind doesn't miss the nuance. Being a rookie implies absence of experience. The players who have been playing the game for almost a decade have experience and they shouldn't be called rookies. The good thing about language is that you don't make up new rules whenever you feel like it.

He means because brazil basically got their own rmr (because NA is shit lul) so its almost a 100% guarantee for brazilians to qualify. The number is inflated but not brazils fault that NA is shit.

Nice list of things to know. Playoff appereance is quite huge amount biased towards those players who were playing in ancient times. It was so much easier to get to playoffs compared to now.

Hen1 never played a major after that disaster at Kraków. Wow! Him leaving Furia was already on my book of worst decisions ever made but that sheds another light to it.

I believe kyarbye's decision to leave Astralis was even worse.

Not really, Astralis only got really dominant after they added Magisk and let's face it Magisk is and even back then was a much better individual player. HEN1 on the other hand was a key piece of Furia's success and the team went to shit without him while he himself faded into irrelevancy.

I meant it was a bad decision from Kyaerbye's point of view, not from that of the team.

awesome graphic. disagree with some of the rookies - a few of them have been in or around tier1 for many years. I'm sad for dupreeh and twistzz. happy for many others.

Why are you constantly bringing this up? Rookies in this case means it's their first time attending a Major. It doesn't matter if they are 50 year old grandpas with 30 year experience in the game.

constantly bringing this up lmao? are you cooked? you clearly don't understand the definition of the word rookie. just go look how they use the word in other sports, or even just look at the definition
2024-03-12 21:03

In this case it's used correctly since it's only about Majors. It's not like when "Rookie of the year" means "Tier 1 rookie of the year"

Rookie has a specific definition, it's not simply "first time at a specific type of event". if you play football or baseball for 10 years and finally make it to your first playoff - you are NOT a rookie. the word is not used in that context. just compare to any other sport.

IMO pic 2 is the most significant, while EU has the "most experienced" players, the rookies are coming from SA and CIS, mark my words but it will be the downfall of the EU. Perhaps not this major but in cs2 for sure
