World Esports Championship 2024 to feature $400,000 CS2 prize pool

The next edition of the nations-based esports event will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

WEC will feature a prize pool of $400,000 for CS2

The International Esports Federation (IESF) has announced that the 2024 World Esports Championship will include two CS2 tournaments with a combined prize pool of $400,000. The open competition will feature 24 teams and a $240,000 prize pool, while the women's tournament will see 16 teams duke it out for $160,000.

Counter-Strike 2 is one of the five game titles that will be played at the 16th World Esports Championship, which will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, later this year (specific dates have not yet been announced). The event will feature a record prize pool of $1 million across all tournaments.

The announcement of the host nation was made in September 2023, just months after Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud, a member of the Saudi royal family and Chairman of the Saudi Esports Federation, became the Statutory Vice President of the IESF.

The road to the World Esports Championship will begin with national qualifiers, which will be followed by regional qualifiers. The slot allocation for each region is as follows:

Europe Europe - 12 open and 7 women's spots
South America / North America Americas - 4 open and 3 women's spots
Asia Asia - 6 open and 4 women's spots
African Union Africa - 2 open and 2 women's spots

Following the regional qualifiers, 24 open and 16 female teams will travel to the main event in Riyadh, where a round-robin group stage will lead to a single-elimination playoff bracket. For more information on the format, IeSF has released this video.

The top eight teams in each category will be awarded a share of the prize pool, with the open winners taking home $100,000 and the women's winners $50,000.

Open tournament
1. $100,000
2. $50,000
3. $25,000
4-5. $17,500
6. $15,000
7-8. $7,500
Women's tournament
1. $50,000
2. $35,000
3. $25,000
4. $15,500
5-6. $10,000
7-8. $7,500

I hope Astralis women’s team is writting another letter about “taking vital step towards diversity and inclusivity” since this open event discriminates women by giving them dedicated spots right away in smaller prize pool tournament instead of letting them prove themselfs in open qualifiers against everyone no matter the gender and have a shot at bigger prize pool. reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/1b..

Bro they cant even qualify for ESL Challenger events, FE tournaments are literally fake tournaments for TOs to leech off Diversity budget money from sponsors. Just notice how FE tournaments have low viership, no cs-relevant sponsors (gaming hardware, skin websites, gambling/betting, etc) and a bunch of mainstream companies. Why the fuck is coca cola interested in sponsoring esl whatever ladies australia for 200 viewers but not the major? The whole scene is fake and set up for TOs/team owners to make a quick buck out of it. FE players should be thankful for being better paid than tier 2 players while barely being able to qualify for FPL-C events instead of being whiny and complain

lol are u braindead, they can qualify to the open if they're good enough, this is obviously a positive for female Cs. And if you're that fragile to still be upset about a simple request for a default female agent u rly need therapy

WTF is that argument lmao Just because we have to have a car to participate in society doesn't mean we have to endorse an authoritarian state that produces some of the oil. The Saudi royal family are rich greedy assholes who are more than willing to exploit their people to further consolidate power. Is that a hot take?

Yep, WESG discontinued, it's ostensibly because of the epidemic, but in reality it's because Alibaba, its organizer, was penalized for transferring assets abroad through the IPO and had to shrink in size.

Yes they are sportswashing but wth is the second statement supposed to be? This is that cs2 world cup thing that iesf run every year so an international eam like mouz and nip wont be attending and the tournament is too irrelevant for mibr and pain to attend so some other brazilians will be attending if they can even make past argentina like last time.

This tournament has nothing to do with Esports World Cup(being held in summer). This tournament is filled of tier 3 teams, but some talent from small countries might shine here. Kyxsan and Cacanito had represented North Macedonia to win 2 gold medals in 2021 and 2022(beating IHC at final). Last year's Open Champion was Sweden, while the women's was Netherlands. My country had not participated in this interesting contest since the pandemic, but I would follow it, especially the female matches.
