G2 edge out Virtus.pro after crucial Jame crash in Major playoffs decider
A technical issue in a map-deciding situation put an asterisk next to G2's playoffs qualification.

G2 are through to the playoffs at PGL Major Copenhagen after a rollercoaster series against Virtus.pro. After being unable to close out a late lead on Overpass, the European side narrowly survived Inferno after "divine intervention" helped them close out the map, and won out the deciding Anubis with ease.
Virtus.pro exit the Major in harrowing fashion after Dzhami "Jame" Ali timed out in a crucial 4v4 retake scenario in the penultimate round of the second map in a malfunction that was caused by a driver crash, according to PGL.
Jame and company had won a chaotic opening map of Overpass after recovering from a 9-12 deficit, and the score on the second map was 11-11 when the crash took place.
Although it's impossible to tell what would have happened without it, it ultimately helped decide their fate as the Russian in-game leader drifted into open space and got killed from the CT spawn to make it a 3v4. G2 went on to retake the B bombsite to clinch map point and closed the map in the final round of regulation.
"With divine intervention comes G2's redemption," Harry "JustHarry" Russell called out after the second map came to a close.

If the situation was playing on Jame's mind after the match, he did not let it be known in the interview with Pala "Pala" Gilroy Sen. The in-game leader only spoke of his disappointment with the level they showed. "I'm so disappointed in our game," he said. "It was maybe the best preparation we had in our team, but it wasn't enough for a win versus G2."
The unfortunate situation puts an asterisk next to G2's hard-fought playoffs qualification after they recovered from the overtime loss on Overpass and a horrid start to Inferno. Virtus.pro suffocated their offense on the second map and looked to be in the driving seat until G2's multiple low buy wins and a last-moment defuse put them back in contention.
A quick affair on Anubis followed, with G2 running rampant on the CT side, unanswered until the ninth round. A cosmetic comeback at the end of the first half changed nothing, as Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen and company ran out victors with a comfortable Terrorist display, with Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov ending the map with a 2.06 rating and 124 ADR.
