CSGOEmpire announces $50,000 online tournament

The skin betting site has partnered with Fortuna Esports to host a three-stage tournament in April.

Skin betting site CSGOEmpire has announced the $50,000 CSGOEmpire Cup, set to be played from April 3-19 in an online setting. The organizer partnered with Fortuna Esport, which will take care of production, management, and administration, and will broadcast the tournament on its Twitch channel.

The event is set to feature 30 teams and will be split into Play-Ins, Groups, and Playoffs, each with its own set of direct invites. Some invitees have already been announced, with the likes of BLEED and Sangal headlining the group-stage team list.

Four teams have also received a direct invite to the playoffs, among which are GamerLegion and 9 Pandas, who are the only top 30 teams currently confirmed in attendance. HAVU and 3DMAX have accepted invitations to the final stage, with more invites set to be announced in due course.

"As a brand, we’ve historically been pretty shy, so we haven’t really put ourselves out there much. 2024 is when we change that — by the end of this year, everyone will know our name and hear what we have to say," Dušan "shaN" Pećić, Marketing Manager at CSGOEmpire, said about the announcement.

I always found this notion stupid. Bookmakers don't make more or less money on a fixed or not fixed match. Or you need to believe that literally every line is a bait line in these events, but seems far fetched to me.

There’s practically nothing on the line, usually the #1 prize is 50k at best. Throwing a couple maps and a bunch of live lines like +4.5 handicaps throughout the tournament easily earns the same or more for a team with 0 effort and they can easily go out before even reaching playoffs And they don’t risk anything either as any loss can be explained by “we were just using this tournament as practice”
