G2 brush aside MOUZ to reach semi-finals in Copenhagen

MOUZ's young guns once again struggled on stage in the playoffs of a big event.

G2 march into the semi-finals

G2 are through to the semi-final stage of PGL Major Copenhagen after a 2-0 victory over MOUZ in a one-sided series that highlighted the issues that the young team continues to experience in stage matches. Just like in Katowice, they were outclassed in a playoff match, this time by a G2 team that delivered their best performance of the Major so far, just days after edging past Virtus.pro in a controversial series because of a technical issue in a crucial round.

Today's match was not without its fair share of drama, either, after the second map was interrupted by an on-stage incident. But G2 kept their composure at all times, and they'll be riding a huge wave of confidence for Saturday's match against Natus Vincere.

"The result speaks for itself," Nikola "NiKo" Kovač said after the match. "I'm very happy with how we played both maps. It's looking good so far in the playoffs. Everything is going well in our camp right now."

The series kicked off on Inferno, G2's map pick, with Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen nearly pulling off a 1v4 clutch in the pistol round before fluffing his lines. That didn't rattle G2, who hit back immediately on a force buy and rode that momentum to a 7-1 lead. It was only then that MOUZ finally managed to get a foothold in the game, with the half ending with an 8-4 scoreline.

G2 added to their lead after the side switch, picking up three rounds in a row after a successful pistol in which the Kovač cousins shared all five kills between them. With guns in hand, MOUZ enjoyed a spell of dominance, but by then it was too late: G2 tightened up and locked down the map in the 22nd round, unfazed by a 1v2 clutch by Kamil "siuhy" Szkaradek minutes earlier.

G2 carried their momentum to the second map, Vertigo, and stormed to a 6-0 lead on the CT side. Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin and Ádám "torzsi" Torzsás stepped up to the plate and helped MOUZ close the gap to one round after a 5-0 run, with G2 then winning the final round of the half.

After a 30-minute delay because of a stage invasion, the match resumed, and things looked promising for MOUZ at first as they won the pistol round with ease. However, G2 responded immediately on a force buy and put together a string of rounds to lock down the map and seal a semi-final berth in Copenhagen.

Reply when he gets on even a tier 2 team (he won't because he is worthless) Almost having achievements doesn't mean anything when you are useless at your job At the end of the day, if he's good he gets a team, which he won't.

I take back all of my "mouz will destroy g2" comments Mouz didn't play with the usual balls today, only torzsi and brollan did, too many stupid mistakes and xertion ghosted. But whatever. Good experience for a young team, now we see if brollan stays, 99% sure he does

Incredibly young team many on their first major stage. Sad it wasn't more of a game, I was expecting a close mouz win not a g2 blowout.

I really like xertion as player and I think his future is bright, but this is the reason why rain is still the top dog in the role and all of users calling for -rain +xertion are delusional. Raw talent gets you so far, but experience still matters a lot especially in big games like majors playoffs.
