horvy to play for Wildcard in place of JBa at IEM Chengdu

Wildcard will be without their highest-rated player at the event in China.

Wildcard coach João "⁠horvy⁠" Horvath has announced that he will be standing in for his team at IEM Chengdu in place of Josh "⁠JBa⁠" Barutt after the latter was unable to travel due to food poisoning.

JBa has been an integral part of Wildcard's relative success in reaching the PGL Major's Americas RMR and making regular deep runs in regional qualifiers as the team's highest-rated player throughout 2024.

How Wildcard stacked the deck with JBa

The absence of JBa will therefore be a significant blow to the North American side, who are one of the lowest-ranked teams set to compete at IEM Chengdu and already have one stand-in, Ian "⁠motm⁠" Hardy, playing in place of Qihao "⁠C4LLM3SU3⁠" Su.

Wildcard's coach and stand-in horvy is no stranger to playing competitive CS, having enjoyed a six-year career playing as a journeyman in Brazil and Europe from 2016 to 2022.

The 25-year-old has stood in for Wildcard once in the past, but only played a handful of rounds in a defeat against Forsaken late last year.

Wildcard wanted motm but he played for a Bad News Bears mixed team in an open qualifier for a day and got screwed by roster lock rules. So ESL allowed motm to play this event but none of the others. Then Wildcard picked up callmesue as they had to fill the now open slot
