Skyesports Masters set to start

The online tournament will play out concurrently with IEM Chengdu.

Skyesports Masters 2024 is slated to begin on April 8 with $350,000 on offer, with the eight-team tournament utilizing a double-elimination, best-of-three bracket until the best-of-five grand final crowns a champion on April 14.

The tournament was originally set to be held on LAN in India, but moved online after the organizer cited difficulties obtaining approval for a "large-scale on-ground event" due to India's general elections that begin later in the month.

Skyesports Masters to be held online

Skyesports had pledged to facilitate travel and a bootcamp in Serbia for Gods Reign, the winner of the India closed qualifier, due to the change, but did not follow through on that commitment. Gods Reign will instead play from Jordan in a setup arranged by their organization, according to a report by Dust2.in.

The list of competing teams was modified at the end of March when Liquid withdrew from the event after they received a last-minute invitation to IEM Chengdu. They were replaced by Europe closed qualifier runners-up, BetBoom.

The $350,000 online tournament offers a proving ground for a handful of teams who failed to secure spots at IEM Chengdu, particularly ones who made recent changes and have been on an upswing. Chief among that list is Aurora, whose recent addition of Evgeny "⁠r3salt⁠" Frolov from FORZE has already helped the team secure a berth to ESL Challenger Jönköping.

Vladislav "⁠nafany⁠" Gorshkov's BetBoom is also a team to keep an eye on after they added Spirit Academy prospect Kirill "⁠Magnojez⁠" Rodnov, and Artem "⁠r1nkle⁠" Moroz is already lighting up the board for Ninjas in Pyjamas — albeit with the team yet to finalize a permanent fifth.

ENCE enter the tournament as the highest-ranked team and the on-paper favorites, but will need to show renewed form after a lackluster campaign in the Opening Stage of PGL Major Copenhagen that saw them tally just one win and exit the tournament with losses to three Brazilian teams.
