paiN win GET Rio 2024 over Imperial

paiN lost to Imperial in the upper bracket final at 4 AM on day two, but completed a lower bracket run to earn revenge and the lion's share of the $200,000 prize pool.

paiN lift the GET Rio trophy after three hectic days of Counter-Strike

paiN are the champions of GET Rio 2024 after winning back-to-back series on day three over MIBR in the lower bracket and Imperial in the grand final.

The $200,000 LAN suffered from over-optimistic scheduling, a clash with the online EWC qualifiers — paiN have played 20 maps over the last three days —, and technical issues, but the final day ran smoothly as Rodrigo "biguzera" Bittencourt and company confirmed themselves as the best Brazilian team of 2024 on home soil.

Playing with academy prospect Marcelo "nyezin" Ramos after failing to negotiate a buyout for Vinicius "n1ssim" Pereira from Sharks, paiN barely missed a beat with biguzera's calling and the firepower of his young side on show.

19-year-old sniper Lucas "nqz" Soares ended the event as their highest-rated player on a 1.21 rating, with Lucas "lux" Meneghini in second on 1.14, as paiN proved their depth ran beyond emblematic skipper biguzera on stage at the Ginásio do Maracanãzinho.

MIBR then moved on to face paiN in the lower bracket final, with a small break of an hour or so between series.

That ended up showing on the server, as MIBR were blown out of the water on Anubis before finding a brief second wind on Vertigo to push the game to overtime.

Rafael "saffee" Costa ended the series on 42 frags — 12 more than biguzera in second — but MIBR's AWPer could not turn his rating into a win.

Imperial through to GET Rio grand final as day 2 ends after 19 hours of CS

paiN had only finished their upper bracket final against Imperial after 04:00 local time the night before, and their 2-0 win versus MIBR ensured a rematch between Brazil's two most in-form sides for the title.

That scheduling disaster was the subject of a public disagreement between paiN's biguzera and Imperial's Vinicius "VINI" Figueiredo, after the latter was accused of blocking attempts to reschedule the two teams' meeting late on day two to the final day.

The reason for Imperial's enforcement of the game going ahead, at a 01:00 AM local start time, was to ensure they could catch pre-arranged flights to Malta for their ESL Pro League Season 19 campaign.

The final was originally scheduled for 13:00 local time, with Imperial's flights at 20:25 in the evening, but was pushed back to 16:00 after earlier delays in the tournament. Delaying the upper bracket final may have pushed the grand final even further back.

As it happens, ESL re-booked Imperial's flights to a later time regardless to ensure they could play out the grand final, but the early-morning match was played with Imperial the victors.

The overnight drama added some bite to the grand final rematch but, like MIBR earlier on, paiN entered map one of their second series of the day cold.

Imperial swept them aside 13-6, but as action moved to paiN's pick of Nuke biguzera's side started to look more like themselves with a seven-round streak on the T-side for a 7-5 half that was eventually closed out 13-9.

That momentum was carried into a 9-2 T side lead lead on the decider of Ancient, and though Imperial began to mount a comeback paiN rallied to end their old-school run of five series in three days with the trophy and a $100,000 check.

Dude, you don't believe in Brazilian CS so much that the top 12 is like some kind of achievement for FURIA, although it's obvious that this line-up set goals much higher. And considering that during the entire existence of this roster, he did not win anything worthwhile, I would not consider him the top 1 in Brazil. Pain can be considered as such, given the fact that they won the LAN tournament.

You know FURIA only went to Chengdu because they have partnership with ESL right? They would probably lost in the qualifier as well

probably they are trying, but I doubt that pain or biguzera himself would want to, pain's team is a young core with a lot of potential and bigu can play freely, dont know if its a good idea to give that up just to bait for ksc in an team that is having worse results

tournaments get rated higher for having foreign teams in them meaning the winners get more points to the global rating. the thing is the only foreign teams invited were teams rated t3 or lower so it looks like it was just intended to boost their t1 teams rating. having a higher rating means you can bypass regional competitions and get priority when global events needs teams to fill in for others that can't make it.

imperial got the previous article lolmao. These old farts are fleeting legends. Give space to the prodigies please. Furia will also fail, just watch. Give the young gamers their deserved space or brazilian cs will fade. Fallen & co. have given wonderful things to the SA scene, but it's time that the young ones get the spotlight, considering they are the ones that will be there in the future. Fallen is dissapearing, with growing animosity, coldzera is barely recognized beyond SA cs and Boltz is a faded star. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP GIVING THESE SHIT PLAYERS THE SPOTLIGHT FOR CLICKS

kkkkkkkkkkkk Everybody in br cs scene are angry about the organizers and many are ashamed because of the quality of the event. No pro org will ever accept invites from them again, maybe not even in other e-sports games. Its umbelievable the organizers dared to show up to deliver the thopy and everyone were insulting them in the streams. Gaules spent 10 min criticizing the organizers. But, for us, the br teams clashes were very enjoyable (not furias, those were a disgrace).

I dont know exactly how much they got, the information is that the project was initialy for a championship involving valorant, fortinite and honor of king in 2023 so they asked for $860k for Rio Government, but there was an dengue epidemic and they needed to postpone the event. Then, they decided to organize a cs event instead. They say they were offered an sponsorship from an org but that derived from federal government money ($1.150MM)... As this money never came, they asked Rio government for an adtional $480k and said that were hopping to get also $670k from the federal government. So the money is gotten from government is probably something between $860k and $1,340MM. I dont think they got the $1.150MM from federal government, otherwise this championship would not have been so poor in every aspect.

I think they would not end their companies chances like this, cause no one will ever accept their invites again, and many fans, streamers, casters, orgs and organizers watched or were told about this event, everyone is feeling something between anger and embarrassment and they are expressing it in social medias. Gaules, for instance, spent 10min criticizing it after the end of the event. He told he refused to be the caster because he knew this event would probably be bad and he also dont wanna be involved with politics or government money (huge chance of corruption here in br), just like he refuses bet partnerships. So their chances now are probably only making amateur events, cause many people involved in cs, cs orgs and fans are also involved or fans of other e-sports.
