TheMongolz secure playoffs spot with dominant victory over G2

The European squad were far from their best and failed to make the series competitive.

TheMongolz were a dominant force against G2

The MongolZ have blown G2 out of the water on Ancient (13-4) and Anubis (13-7) to secure a spot at the ESL Pro League Season 19 playoffs.

"This was a world-class performance," commentator Henry "HenryG" Greer said after the series, adding emphasis to Mathieu "Maniac" Quiquerez's comments about how it would be unfair to just paint this victory as G2 not showing up.

The truth lay somewhere in the middle as The MongolZ's stellar performance tilted the series heavily to one side, but G2 also failed to make an appearance and were disjointed and off-key from beginning to end.

The PGL Major Copenhagen and IEM Chengdu semi-finalists were outclassed on both maps played, with only a minimal cosmetic comeback on the attacking side of Anubis to show for. By the end of it all, not a single G2 player boasted a rating above 1, while everyone on The MongolZ was over 1.25.

A mention must go out to AWPer Usukhbayar "910" Banzragch, often overlooked in a nation where riflers reign, as he was one of the engines in his team's victory with a 1.51 rating, 37-16 KD, and 89.2 ADR in the series.

The moment of the match for G2 was, perhaps, a stellar play from Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov, who came in hot from being the only player performing on his team on Ancient and his quad-kill on the A site with a scout could have turned things around early on in their map pick.

In the end it turned out to be a mirage and even he fizzled out as the rounds racked up against his team and frustration mounted. The initial hope and excitement quickly turned into frustration and long faces were seen throughout the G2 camp.

The Mongolian squad showed great composure in a match that was not particularly high stakes — there are now a lower bracket and a last chance bracket before G2 crash out — and in the comfort of the studio in Malta. The MongolZ now have another similar match, the Group B upper bracket final, before the heat gets turned up a notch in the playoffs.

I don’t think they count since the Brazilian scene in 1.6 and Source had major winners. You’d be correct if just looking at GO, but I don’t think you can ignore earlier versions.

Yes. The calls have been fine honestly from how it looks. NiKo and Hunter just don't exist. You can't do much if you're playing around your heavy hitters and they're just missing

Yes. Watching it now. There was maybe one round where he called a straight exec against an eco with no info, but generally he's getting his team into sits where his team just loses duels. The rotations on CT have been fine as well.

I used to think Nexa wasn't the problem but on T I think his roles make the team uncomfortable, so probably -nexa. Also -huNter at this point. NiKo should hopefully find form when you give him his lurk roles back. They should pick up an entry/anchor player and find someone else to fill whatever gap is left

EZ for mongolz, time for some well deserved roster changes in G2, and not only 1 player has to go for this team to get on track again... At this point I would disband the team and rebuild around m0nesy and maybe nexa as the IGL, the rest has to go. Is jks still on the bench? Then bring him back.

Bruh, will nexa IGL still work nowadays? Seriously asking. He's not the same like he did in Cr4zy, and he didn't win anything with OG

Who knows, but clearly m0nesy works the best in a pretty loose system, which is exactly the way nexa leads his teams. I would at least give him a chance, there aren't that many tier 1 IGLs on the market right now.
2024-04-25 17:29

The biggest problem with nexa IGLing isn't that he can't do it anymore. Its's that he has said multiple times that he doesn't want to.

I believe nexa said that he isn't against IGLing again in the future but needs guidance from an actual IGL since the only thing he has of an IGL is calling and nothing else.

NiKo should go as well if he cannot keep his rage in check. He doesn't have the luxury of being the best rifler anymore to compensate for that.

It seemed to me like that was the plan all along. Throw nexa in, if hooxi doesn't shape up in a few tournaments then we go back to old G2 core with nexa IGL

The first ever playoff appearance for Mongolia at an S Tier event. The first ever Asian team to make playoffs at Pro League. We live in such a crazy time, props to Mongolz for representing their region well out here and with some legit wins to make playoffs. Would love a statement dub and Top 8 over Vitality or BetBoom later on this week, that should be them knocking on the door of the Top 10.
