FaZe claim vengeance to eliminate NAVI from EPL

FaZe are through to the quarter-final of ESL Pro League Season 19 after a 2-0 victory over NAVI (13-5 Nuke, 16-14 Mirage), claiming revenge against Aleksi "⁠Aleksib⁠" Virolainen's side for beating them in the grand final of PGL Major Copenhagen.

"It was personal," David "⁠frozen⁠" Čerňanský stated emphatically on the broadcast after the game. "It was fucking personal. They obviously beat us at the Major and we wanted the revenge. We will have to beat them a couple more times to actually be a little satisfied, but... yeah."

The victory puts FaZe through to the quarter-final of EPL, where they will face Vitality to continue a gauntlet run through the bracket stage.

At the Major FaZe had picked Ancient, a decision that cost them dearly as Natus Vincere had heavily prepared the map at their bootcamp ahead of the Major and won it to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

FaZe had responded on Natus Vincere's Mirage pick with a dominant 13-1 win but floundered on the Inferno decider to finish the Major as the runners-up, but this time, they didn't give the Copenhagen champions the same opportunity, opting instead for a Nuke pick to kick things off.

Finn "⁠karrigan⁠" Andersen's side firmly had their foot on Natus Vincere's throats from the onset of the map, dominating Outside and Yard for a 6-0 start. A late resurgence from NAVI closed the gap at the break, but Robin "⁠ropz⁠" Kool and karrigan combined for a flawless six-round streak on the CT side to secure victory, 13-5.

NAVI's showing at the start of Mirage looked like a mirror of their flat performance at the Major, with Helvijs "⁠broky⁠" Saukants and ropz's double AWP setup, combined with Håvard "⁠rain⁠" Nygaard anchoring A, completely decimated NAVI in the first half.

A pistol and conversion putting FaZe within touching distance of victory, but Natus Vincere came alive and pulled off a valiant comeback from 4-10 to force overtime.

They couldn't convert upon that, however, despite leading after a 1vs2 clutch from Aleksib: FaZe's CT side again proved too strong, and the map ended in disastrous fashion for NAVI as they could have forced a second overtime, only to lost a 2vs4 to a quad-kill from karrigan.
