FURIA lose CCT EU Series 4 final to GUN5

The Brazilian team's struggles continue with another shock loss.

GUN5 have claimed the CCT Season 2 Europe Series 4 after an upset win against FURIA. The Russian squad beat Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo and company in a two-map series (Dust2 13-11, Nuke 13-9) to claim the title and the $22,000 grand prize.

The shock loss marks another entry to FURIA's collection of disappointments in recent times. Since removing Andrei "⁠arT⁠" Piovezan in favor of Kayke "⁠kye⁠" Bertolucci, the team suffered group-stage exits at Global Esports Tour Rio and ESL Pro League S19 before staying in Europe to play in lower-ranked online cups.

They couldn't regain their form, however, as they were eliminated by 1win in the quarter-final of CCT Season 2 Europe Series 3 before their misery was further compounded by another unexpected defeat against GUN5 in the grand final on Sunday.

The Brazilian team now has one more event until the player break, YaLLa Compass, where they have been placed in Group B alongside the likes of Complexity, Eternal Fire, and BetBoom.

For GUN5, the event was ex-FORZE duo Ivan "⁠SELLTER⁠" Miroshnikov's and Andrey "⁠tN1R⁠" Tatarinovich's debut, with the team beginning their road to the final all the way back in the closed qualifier.

They advanced to the main event without much difficulty, where they were eliminated in the Swiss system but were recalled for the playoffs as the organizers couldn't find a suitable playoffs-invited team in a timely manner.

GUN5 made the most out of their second chance and beat GamerLegion, SINNERS, VP.Prodigy, and FURIA to win the event.

The final began with GUN5's Dust2 pick, who stuck to their guns after playing and winning it in every playoff match at the tournament up to this point. They posted a dominant 8-4 half despite losing the pistol, but FURIA did well to bring it back in the second half.

The momentum was in the hands of the Brazilians, and they brought it back to 8-10 before SELLTER found four crisp Deagle headshots that eventually led to his team taking the map 13-11.

Due to their slow start to the series, FURIA needed to bounce back with aplomb on their pick of Nuke. Things didn't go according to plan early on, though, as tN1R's 1vs2 clutch in the pistol set him team up for success in the early rounds. Yuri "⁠yuurih⁠" Santos spearheaded the fightback with several crucial multi-kills, which helped the Brazilians tie up the scoreline at the switch.

The Nuke CT side was a troublesome one for FURIA, who won just one gun round before Ivan "⁠easy⁠" Mikitenko won a 1vs3 to put the final nail in the FURIA coffin and win the grand final for his team.
