m0NESY on G2's season: "We deserve a bit of hate, we could have done much better"
Despite winning a trophy and making many playoff appearances, m0NESY is still not happy with G2's season.

G2's campaign at BLAST Premier Spring Final was scuppered before it even began, with visa issues striking superstar AWPer Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov leading the Russian phenom to miss the first game and arrive at the very last minute for their elimination bout with Vitality.
The team were unable to overcome the issues, despite m0NESY trying his utmost on little practice, and exited the tournament in last place. As a result, G2's topsy-turvy season ended on a sour note, with the squad unable to build upon their fairy tale tournament victory last time out in Dallas.

Despite making the playoffs of nearly every tournament they played, and securing a trophy, m0NESY was not happy with G2's season. HLTV caught up with the sniper after he was eliminated from BLAST Spring Final to not only get his reflections on G2's year thus far, but also to chat about the whirlwind few days he had dealing with his visa issues, and if he wants to see changes for G2 moving forward.

A bit of a weird day for you. How hard was it to go straight from the plane, into a taxi, and then try to play a game?
It wasn't hard, it was just... I mean, as I said before in the interview with James [BanKs], I didn't play for two days, I was on the plane.
I was trying to prepare myself mentally for the game because I knew it could [be] this hard, and I kind of felt that we were going to play three maps. I don't know how to say it, but I felt like we were going to lose the first map because we are not in good shape and come back on the second map, but I just tried to prepare myself mentally.
I didn't want to really think about how I'm going to perform and blah blah blah, because I tried to do everything for the team. I tried my best, I don't want to say I did everything because it's not true — I could do much more.
Do you think that's why you had a slow map one and then were much better in map two, you had a bit of time to warm up and get going?
Yeah, I had a bit of time after we lost the first map. I had some time to warmup, they [the team] went outside and I was just shooting some bots. It definitely was a crazy series and I enjoyed it. As I said before, I will do everything for this game just to at least try and play the first map, or at least one game, or two games, doesn't matter. This game is my life.
How do you feel in general with having all these problems, like is it really frustrating for you to have these problems that are stopping you playing the game you love?
I feel like... I don't know where I did something bad or something wrong, but luck was not on my side for sure. I couldn't get a visa even before, so I was not lucky with it and... I don't know. It is out of our control to control this kind of stuff. Of course I was frustrated, but I tried to not show it or get tilted, I don't really like to do it.
'It is what it is' kind of thing.
Yeah, it happens.
Just to look back on the season as a whole — it's been up and down for G2 but you've been pretty consistent, you've made all playoffs except this one. How do you feel about the season and do you think people are a bit harsh on G2, considering you're so consistent with making playoffs?
No, I think we deserve a bit of hate, obviously. We could have done much better as a team for sure, I'm not going to hide it or something like that, and people who are writing that we play badly or something like that, they are right in some way.
But obviously all haters are making us stronger, and from every tournament at the start of the year, from Katowice, we became better and better. But, yeah, for sure we could have done something better [laughs]. I just don't know what we could have done. I think consistency is the most important on the server, and how we play as a team.
I was going to ask about that. Do you know what the problem is with consistency, because some people like to blame HooXi, some like to blame nexa. Do you have any idea what it is in the team that's holding you back?
First of all, we lose a lot of stupid rounds all the time, I think every player can say it. We like to talk about previous rounds a lot and that could make our next round harder, because you remember all this bad stuff. I don't know what else, to be honest.
Going into the break now, I heard you talking a little bit to BLAST. Do you want to see changes in G2? Do you think you need to keep consistency to then get consistent in your play? What are your thoughts about G2 moving forward?
We will see what will happen in the second season. I can't tell you too much, but I hope we will have stability in the team and we find our way to success. We'll progress even better in the second season and I truly believe that we can win some trophies.
