degster looks set to miss his third tournament with HEROIC

HEROIC will play their second consecutive tournament without their star AWPer Abdul "⁠degster⁠" Gasanov after the 23-year-old failed to acquire a visa in time, HEROIC has confirmed to HLTV.

It is currently unknown how many matches degster will miss as the organization is still waiting for visa approval and is ready to fly him in immediately.

IEM Cologne is the third tournament degster won't be able to attend since signing for HEROIC in May. He previously missed out at IEM Dallas, where Nico "⁠nicoodoz⁠" Tamjidi replaced him, and BLAST Premier Groups, where the team employed the services of coach Eetu "⁠sAw⁠" Saha.

In Cologne, however, coach sAw will not be joining the server as HEROIC were able to submit other players instead, with the identity of the substitute not yet known.

HEROIC will start their Cologne campaign against MIBR on Wednesday, with 9z and BetBoom also on their side of the bracket.

Visa's take time yes. But don't say its because he is Russian. Every team member on Spirit is Russian and they have yet to miss any events due to visas. I think Donk was the only one who missed blast groups at the start of the year. So yes it is on Degster. He needs to know his schedule and apply for his visa's a head of time, especially being a Russian. Cologne is the ONE tournament teams get ready for but yet again Degster misses his 3rd tournament this year...

You''re so wrong if you think this is so easy haha You can't get another citizenship if you don't have any roots there or haven't invested like 300k in country economy (golden passport) which is also cancelled by most of the countries now for russians. It's always been funny to me how EU/US people have no idea what a hell we deal when it comes to traveling. It used to be very easy before the war - you could just apply without any notice and get your visa done in 2 days. I had a 5y Schengen visa and could travel for up to 90 days in half a year. My next visa was just 6 months when the war started. Most of the people either get declined or just get a visa for travel dates. And you have to apply 2-3 months before the travel dates.

I am Japanese and as a result of Japan's suspension of Chinese visas due to the Corona disaster and the release of treated water from nuclear power plants, China abolished short-term visas as a countermeasure. It still requires a screening process. I would like to go see the Shanghai majors but I have no idea if they will issue a visa. The war and the corona changed everything.

It's just a convenient pick because he's benched (i.e. easily available), young and has played in the Danish scene before so that could help him bond with the Danes in the team. Not everyone on here is a raging nationalist

it is really weird, Spirit removed degster because he didn't want to move to Serbia with the rest of the team to make traveling easier (I assume their plan is to spend like 2 years there to get the papers, afaik Spirit is now even technically a Serbian org) So like, if Heroic asked around AT ALL it should be something to come into a conversation within less than 5 questions. Heroic can't sort anything here, this is his fault alone because he's not willing to live outside of Russia. Which you need to do in order to get a citizenship that won't cause problems. Sure he hit a random lottery of being named Abdul which is likely an automatic flag everywhere - but he has to leave Russia for a bit.

It is inexcusable from the side of the org, whoever signed him and didn't know this surely won't get any bonuses. Chances are Heroic didn't have anyone from Russia so they were isolated from the problem, but it's still a poor excuse. This is a lot of money down the drain and a lot of time lost on practicing with a player that will get removed. They won't be ready for 2025 and with poor results caused by this - they won't have early invites to kickstart their campaign without paid invites. But then again, we go back and remember that Heroic is an org who got manipulated by two kids to the point that they destroyed an entire roster. Hard to have high expectations on the business side of things

Technically they don’t live in Russia they live in Serbia and it is Serbian orga with players with residence permit. Which allows them to receive visa from embassies in Serbia (without residence permit it is impossible so new players should travel to Russia). So for european countries they are Serbian residents not Russian. Abdul refused to do it..

Why are ppl blaming degster for something that is the org's task to handle? If anything it's the org that hasn't studied visa complication issues with russians enough in order before they signed him or isn't doing it properly/in timely manner (I bet you'd have to handle these things probably many months beforehand so it could be due to his signing has quite recently been done, they haven't had enough buffer to start processing the upcoming tournaments as quickly as possible).
