GamerLegion go 0-2 to 4-2 to qualify for Shanghai Major

BetBoom bow out of the RMR at the last hurdle as they give way to GamerLegion after a thriller series.

GamerLegion have secured the last Shanghai Major spot on offer in the first European RMR group after beating BetBoom in the seventh-place decider 2-1.

The win against the Russian side meant GamerLegion completed the comeback from a 0-2 start to the RMR, adding another to a series of close victories over UNiTY, Falcons and SINNERS on the way to a spot in the Opening Stage.

The young squad will have four rookies at the Major, Timur "⁠FL4MUS⁠" Marev, Henrich "⁠sl3nd⁠" Hevesi, Sebastian "⁠Tauson⁠" Tauson Lindelof and Erik "⁠ztr⁠" Gustafsson, a testament to the organization's superb scouting.

"It means everything, this is my life and I devote everything to it, and to have made my first Major means everything," ztr said on the official broadcast after the match. "The insane vibes we had, the energy... from 0-2 we changed mentality and energy and that made us go through."

For BetBoom it means a heartbreaking end to their Major hopes, and also yet another close miss for Vladislav "⁠nafany⁠" Gorshkov. The in-game leader finished just one series win away from making it to PGL Major Copenhagen with BetBoom earlier this year and BLAST.tv Paris Major with Cloud9 last year.

The Russian squad stole Ancient away to begin the deciding series as GamerLegion gave up an 11-5 lead to a series of clutches and over-eager aggressive calls on the CT side.

A return to form followed on Nuke with GamerLegion dominating the opposition before it came down to a close affair on Mirage.

The two sides looked inseparable on the decider with Aleksandr "⁠zorte⁠" Zagodyrenko racking up 19 kills over the first half, but even the AWPer's efforts weren't enough as FL4MUS' relentless aggression yielded GamerLegion two crucial rounds late on Mirage to tip the scales in their favor.
