Techno: "The first goal is playoffs, but we can maybe even win this Major"

The MongolZ are feeling confident on their home continent after breezing through the Opening stage.

Sodbayar "⁠Techno⁠" Munkhbold and The MongolZ could not have had a better Opening stage after going 3-0 and dropping just 15 rounds over four maps.

The Mongolian team are looking to make history in China, but Techno admitted playoffs were the "main goal" for the squad in Shanghai after going out in 15th-16th last time around in Copenhagen.

Asia's best team has won four LANs this year but the region is still waiting for its first Big Event — or, perhaps, Major — champions.

But "if it's possible to do more, we can even win this Major," Techno tells HLTV. "I'm standing by my word."

Such a convincing way to the second stage of the Major, you never really looked in danger. Was it as easy as it looked?

We're feeling really great and confident. It's a great feeling.

We're playing good Counter-Strike and playing really comfortable and well in our own game, and also we're really playing good against them. I think it's all the hard work and all the practice. We're so comfortable in Asia because of the timezone and food.

You seemed to have stepped up individually at this Major. What do you think it's down to?

I'm feeling confident again. In recent matches I was playing bad (laughs), stats were very bad also. I got myself back in the game.

We see that all of the underdogs are surprising, but you've made it look easy. Is it just down to that preparation you were talking about before? Did you approach this Major in a specific way that helped you overcome these opponents that everyone else is struggling against?

This Major is really an upset Major for the favorite teams. There's really no special preparation for us, just playing our CS, our playstyle, and being ready for everything. Playing our own, yeah.

How confident does this make you? Going into the second stage where all the big teams are coming in, do you feel you will have a chance to make it even one stage further? Last time you made to the second stage for the first time, is the goal now to go one step more?

As I said before at the RMR, the first goal is to make it to playoffs at this Major. If it's possible to do more, we can even win this Major, maybe, I said that. I'm standing by my word.
