Falcons were interested in m0NESY, but the player is likely to stay put

Ilya "⁠m0NESY⁠" Osipov is likely to stay on at G2, at least for the first half of 2025, multiple sources have told HLTV and independent reporter Guillaume 'neL' Rathier. This comes despite strong interest in the Russian AWPer by Falcons, who are set to complete the signing of Nikola "⁠NiKo⁠" Kovač.

HLTV knows that m0NESY considered Falcons' offer to join NiKo and Emil "⁠Magisk⁠" Reif as the Saudi organization overhauls the roster after a disappointing season that culminated in the team's failure to qualify for the Shanghai Major.

However, G2 made it clear that they will not entertain offers for the Russian star, who is in contention for the Player of the Year award alongside Danil "⁠donk⁠" Kryshkovets and Mathieu "⁠ZywOo⁠" Herbaut after helping G2 to three titles in 2024 (IEM Dallas, BLAST Premier Fall Final and BLAST Premier World Final).

Two months ago, G2 CEO Alban Dechelotte stressed that m0NESY remains "at the heart" of the organization's CS project. "But today, he's also the best player in the world, and he has an opportunity to become the leader of the roster in his own right," he told MGG France. "So we're working on what the G2 CS roster will look like in the future."

G2 CEO: "If we wanted to keep NiKo, we could have done so"

In an interview with HLTV after the semi-final exit at the Major, G2 head coach Wiktor "⁠TaZ⁠" Wojtas suggested that the team wouldn't lose more than one player. "That's the only one," he said. "At the moment, we are cooking."

m0NESY's contract is rumored to expire at the end of 2025. This would leave G2 with the task of trying to convince the player to sign a new deal or risk losing him for nothing at the end of next year.

G2 remain in the market for a replacement for NiKo, who has been with the European organization since October 2020. In the same interview with MGG France, Dechelotte said Mario "⁠malbsMd⁠" Samayoa could take NiKo's positions, which would see the new player fill the vacant anchor role.

Most T side % rounds won on before playoff major dude. Stop spitting this bullshit, he already proven himself as a good IGL. He doesn't lose composure like Apex or Hooxi, can clutch unlike most IGLs, and has good calls, their T side% from Hooxi went from 48% to 56%. And no, it's not Malbs effect, cuz on CT side they still whop 52%.

This is some rather short-sighted, naive thinking...there have been numerous orgs in the past who were in Falcons exact position right now(being new to CS) and then went on to have success...saying theyre dead on arrival simply because they havent had a ton of success in the mere TWO YEARS theyve had a CS team for is just straight up dumb. And when you consider the purchasing power Falcons have(and commitment to spend that money on talent), its even stupider to claim Falcons as an org is somehow just dead in the game of CS. Everyone knew the Falcons rosters so far have been lacking firepower and any real star power...so yeah, no shit they havent been terrible successful when CS2 has been VERY competitive so far. No one thought Falcons were going to be world beaters with those rosters, and the fact they may have underperformed is basically irrelevant as well. The mere fact Niko is joining Falcons, M0nesy was listening to their offers(and would not be surprised if he joined Falcons at some point in 2025), got s1mple on loan, and have been rumoured to have multiple other top players listening to their offers is literal proof that what your saying is nonsense. Once they get 1 more top player to join Niko and Magisk, their chances of attracting more top talent goes WAY UP, not to mention the kind of money theyre able to offer. And once they have a good roster, all it will take is some decent success to attract even more talent in the future. It will not take much for Falcons to attract even more big names once they have Niko+Magisk+M0nesy and a boatload of cash, its completely asinine to claim Falcons are somehow doomed to always suck.

Having Niko on your team means that he will often step up when things are getting tough and you see in Vita where it leads when you have no one besides Zywoo trying to make plays when things are not going their way. Adding spinx would propably be awful for G2 unless malbs can really be a mini-donk
