rigoN and BIG reached the Elimination Stage at the Shanghai Major

BIG announced the parting of ways with Swiss rifler Rigon "⁠rigoN⁠" Gashi, who will become a free agent on January 1 after six months on the team.

rigoN's time on BIG was trying as the former Bad News Eagles player and the German outfit tried to mesh different styles and needs. "He was a really aggressive style of player, and we don't actually need that, but sometimes he can bring the spiciness," Johannes "⁠tabseN⁠" Wodarz told HLTV after signing him.

tabseN: "You can see rigoN comes from an environment that had a family vibe"

Months later, at the RMR in Shanghai, Jon "⁠JDC⁠" de Castro said that rigoN "is trying his best to implement into the system while we try our best to activate his craziness," but in the end, it was not to be.

JDC: "Being an anchor was a humbling experience"

Despite the pieces not always fitting properly, BIG made it to the top 16 at the Major in Shanghai, beating Passion UA, Virtus.pro and Complexity along the way, but were eventually no match for HEROIC, G2, and paiN in the Elimination Stage.

Outside of the Major, BIG struggled mightily during the second half of 2024, going out of every Big Event in the group stage or play-in. They did make it to the final at the smaller ESL Challenger Atlanta, but fell to FlyQuest at the final hurdle.

"After an intense and unforgettable journey, it's time for me to say goodbye," rigoN wrote on X. "This chapter has been filled with ups and downs that have shaped me not only as a player but also as a person.

"Together we gave it our all, but unfortunately, things didn’t work out as I had envisioned. I am grateful for the incredible moments, the support from the team and the fans, and the opportunity to be part of this.

"My journey continues and it's the start of something greater. I will be back better, more sharp, and ready to show what I'm truly capable of. "

i think rigons plays often made a difference for BIG, even though they did not always work out. but the tabsen quote tells me everything i need to know, BIGs weakness will always be that they are passive and predictable and as long as tabsen does not give freedom to his players, it will never matter who they will sign

i think that would be a gamble. i never was a friend of gob b's system, not that its bad, but it just isnt meta and thought the move was good. i have nothing against gob obviously. i feel like tabseN is still holding on to this system and there isnt much innovation, i mean yeah big always will play structured cs, but it needs a good/better balance. I think s1n can be a top IGL in the next years, tabseN is prooven but switching s1n for him would be a gamble against t1/t2 teams. Because tabseN has so much experience. But then again, he's 29 and i dont know when he retires. Also i think syrsoN is a very good awp player. He stepped up massively in the RMR and Major. I think the transition to CS2 hurt him a bit but he is very good and also a hybrid awp with good rifle skills. Sure he whiffed some. I really like slaxz and his playstyle but afaik he moved to NA because of his GF and i dont think he would join a Team outside of NA anytime soon. That being said, i would have nothing against giving the young bloods a chance, but it would be a gamble for the Org. You could just rebuild around Krimbo and JDC and then you have options like s1n/k1to for IGL or k1to/prosus/perx for rifle, slaxz/hyped for awp. You basicly have a lot of options for riflers.. but i guess overall you have to make the team work. Dont know if its a flawed system or "just" team chemistry..

I don't think tabseN needs to go straight away. I'm sure if you would remove him as IGL and just let him rifle again instead, he'd be able to put up numbers again and become a important part for BIG's success.

Sadly he was not the upgrade to prosus people, including me, hoped for. He had a lot of impact on crucial rounds, even if he was the bottom of the scoreboard, but so was prosus with better performances in general. Lets see who is going to replace him next year, as the recent performance BIG especially showed against weaker teams like ECSTATIC, Arrow and Gun5 forced this move.
