EliGE on FaZe's comms: "Eventually I want to help shorten the amount of words so there is a little less chaos"

The American rifler gave some early thoughts after his debut with FaZe ended with a win.

FaZe secured victory in their BLAST Bounty opener in a hard-fought three-map series against M80, with Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski starring on the Dust2 decider to ensure a victory in his debut for the European lineup.

It was a chaotic series, in classic FaZe fashion, where an inspired showing from Helvijs "broky" Saukants (1.43 rating, 25-15 K-D) helped steal away Ancient before FaZe stumbled on their Inferno pick to let M80 tie the series.

FaZe lost out to a 1v2 ace clutch by M80 stand-in Nils "k1to" Gruhne and had some panicked mid-rounds on Dust2, but EliGE helped right the ship (1.65 rating, 23-11 K-D) to secure the series.

The 27-year-old moved over from Complexity during the tournament break after he was named the 19th best player of 2024, held back from placing higher despite excellent individual form due to lacking results by his former team.

In an interview with the BLAST Bounty analyst desk after the game, EliGE revealed that Finn "karrigan" Andersen invited him to FaZe soon after the Major and touched on his move to Europe, stating that he received other offers but that playing with karrigan was something he "really wanted" and a move to FaZe was an "easy decision."

EliGE also shared insight into his first practices and official with FaZe when asked about the hectic communication on TeamSpeak that is often showcased in karrigan's YouTube videos, saying it was something he hoped to help simplify in the future.

"The comms remind me of Liquid in 2019 and 2018," EliGE said. "There's a lot more stuff that's on the fly, we're trying to say everything really quickly, whereas on COL, yeah, it was just a couple of guys — me, JT, and hallzerk — that were saying a lot of stuff. But we also had a lot of codewords that simplified a lot of comms whereas here we do a lot of things on the fly.

"Eventually I want to help shorten down the amount of words so there is a little less chaos, because sometimes it is going crazy in the comms. If you get pushed anytime during those crazy comms then it can backfire a little bit, but overall I think we have a lot of stuff to look forward to."

EliGE also touched on how positions and roles are being distributed in this FaZe roster, giving the example of him playing A on Ancient but also often taking the fight in the Middle brawl.

"We're pretty much making it so anyone can do a lot of things," he said. "We're being pretty dynamic, like as you saw on Ancient I 'technically' play A but I can also do a lot of things. The A rifler helps take Mid control a lot too. We have a lot of setups where we can be dynamic and we're not just wanting to have rain play Upper Tunnels every single round on Dust2.

"We want people to get into the action, to activate our aggressive players because we have so many options for what we can do in these rounds, a lot of guys who want to do stuff in the round and not be passive. It's a good compromise that we have to find on all the maps."

Frozen was so good in Mouz idk did they put him into support role in Faze or sth like this?

Because you didn’t really watch him play on mouz On mouz he was the same player as he is. (He was even more passive tbh, he kinda forced to be more aggressive on faze but still wasn’t/isn’t enough) The difference is that back then there was no expectations for mouz also there were guys like Jimmphat and xertion who sacrificed a lot of roles for him to be more comfortable. He had one of the lowest dprs among riflers because of his impacless/baity playstyle

He is not ropz Never will be ropz There are differences between lurking and baiting. BlameF is a lurker too with a very flashy stats. So.

Nobody is saying that he is / will be ropz. He only took ropzes roles.. Lurking and baiting go with eachother.. Hard to say that early, bcs frozen is on these roles first time since he joined faze. He had 1 bad match.. Judge to quickly is insand.. Need some time and we will and yes frozen was better when he was aggresive / supportive.

He only took ropz roles? Who?where?when? Rain is literally playing ropz spots on CT Also on Inferno it was rain who was lurking around A lol Lurking and baiting go with each other? Lurking is baiting yes but while being efficient in favor of the team. When there is not impact nor efficiency its called baiting. 1 bad match? He has been shitting the bed ever since he joined. Saying judging so quickly is so stupid, we’re literally 2 major finals and 1 katowice final down. :))) The last time frozen was aggressive Covid was not a thing 🤦🏻‍♂️

Shitting the bed since he joined is not true. He fell off at the end of last year, there's no denying that. He was playing well enough at the start of last year

Listen Flashy kills and beautiful hltv stats doesn’t mean jack shit if you’re taking crazy amounts of space from your teammates and forcing them to play the way you want.

Rain was lurker on inferno everytime. That doesnt mean rain lurking on every match. What? Impact or efficiency? That means every lurker that had 1 game = baiter. Wow. Did u just watching faze after semifinal in shanghai? He was there best player until major final. :D Yes, judging to quickly is bad. They created new team and ofc its only 1 player change, but that doesnt change the fact that it wasnt 1 for 1 role change.. Elige is more aggresive than ropz was, he was a lurker... That means frozen moves from his roles to ropzes (not all but the most of them). 1 match is very hard to say anything.. They have time to work on things they are doing bad. 2 major and 1 kato final doesnt mean anytbing. He was out of his roles / positions.

after twistz left and frozen came in, there was interview where rain was asked about his opinion of this change and he said that he prefers this role over playing b

Elige wants to change Faze's comms which are one of the reasons why they are so successful? Hilarious he says it reminds him of 2019 Liquid, you know, the most successful part of his career lmao

He is not wrong overall a lil bit less chaotic would be better based of their personalities. Ropz was a chill guy who was rarely vocal thats why it was more balanced now they literally have 5 vocal players.

Actually ropz being less vocal is kind of a myth. In FaZe tbf i think everybody just was vocal, they just need to figure out how to create a balance of voices in the team.

How come? He was literally the least vocal player in FaZe in all of those voice comms that karrigan putted.

FaZe always operated on calling through all players. I think people would have figured out that most of ropz calling was probably done late round as closer mostly on T side cutting off points of rotations, CT side is mostly anchor so they do not need him other than to give information. Especially that many have praised him for it especially Vitality which did think also that he is quiet but he is actually not as quiet as it seems.

Late round calls are for when there are mostly 2,3 guys left What elige is referring to is comms that being called in mid rounds (base/fundamental calls)
2025-01-16 21:20

that's true, but ropz never was in position to be mid rounding that much especially its needed on CT side on T side you have protocols mostly and just need to give info. He was an anchor exc on Mirage from what i remember

Thats the point. Thats exactly why I pointed the word “personalities” all of those guys are vocal doesn’t matter who plays where. Even in those spots where ropz used to play, they might give comms while ropz might wouldn’t or giving even ideas or smth you can’t expect these guys to change their whole personalities and identities therefore they have to simplify things Thats why elige is right

of course elige is right, too many voices and it needs control. That's why i said its myth that ropz wasn't vocal.

This is also one of the advantages of having a native English speaker on the team, I bet G2's comms were also better with Stewie during that Dallas run I think FaZe lost a bit of that when Twistzz left

I don't know. Short and concise calls are easier for non-native speakers to make than long and complicated ones. Knowing which info is important at any given moment and what's just noise isn't really a "non native language" thing. It's more of a general communication thing.
