HEROIC go two for two against Liquid

The new-look HEROIC have returned to winning ways with their full roster.

tN1R topped the server with a 1.18 rating

HEROIC have defeated Liquid in the opening round of the IEM Katowice Play-In with a 2-1 scoreline (9-13 Anubis, 13-11 Nuke, 13-8 Dust2). The result marks HEROIC's second straight victory against Liquid after they defeated them in the BLAST Bounty online stage.

The match started on HEROIC's pick of Anubis, where Liquid took the series lead after a map filled with tech issues and emotions boiling over on the HEROIC side.

Eetu "sAw" Saha's troops fought back with aplomb, however, and edged out a close Nuke map before putting together a dominant CT side on Dust2 to stay in the upper bracket, where they will face off against Eternal Fire, while Liquid will meet Complexity in the lower bracket.

Liquid under further VRS pressure

One of the biggest talking points around Liquid coming into the game was their curious decision to skip PGL Cluj-Napoca and the impact that could have on their VRS ranking. After their loss today, Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken's men lost 24 points and fell below FURIA in the Americas ranking.

During an earlier desk segment, both Aleksandar "kassad" Trifunović and Eefje "sjokz" Depoortere confirmed that the decision, which could prove to be very costly come the next batch of tournament invites, came from the org and not the players.

Strike #1: Liquid's Cluj mistake

NertZ denied his revenge

Guy "NertZ" Iluz left HEROIC to search for pastures new during the winter break and was full of fighting talk ahead of today's game.

"The game being online was a big factor," the Israeli rifler said about their previous loss. "They are good players, but I will say [they're] online gods, let's see if they will do the same on LAN."

HEROIC's performance did more than enough to answer the critics, though, while NertZ couldn't build on his impressive 1.79-rated offensive side on Anubis and finished the match with a middle-of-the-board 1.03 rating.

tN1R keeping up Bounty form

Andrey "tN1R" Tatarinovich became an unexpected signing for HEROIC during the winter, but he hasn't looked out of place against higher-ranked opposition.

The Belarusian rifler had some standout moments in the online portion of BLAST Bounty before he missed out on a Finals appearance due to visa issues, but his IEM Katowice opener proved he can do it on LAN, too.

He topped the board on Anubis (1.23) and Dust2 (1.42) and was a disruptive force throughout the match, winning 10 of his 12 opening duels.

While HEROIC's biggest name, Álvaro "SunPayus" García, was unable to activate on the first two maps, he joined the Belarusian on Dust2 to get the team over the line.

"I didn't pop off at all, but my teammates played so well on LAN," the Spaniard said with a proud smile before admitting he is enjoying his new environment. "I really wanted to come to this team because I needed a refresh, I needed new players around me."

what kind of ego trip is this for twistzz? You cant be a star player, top fragger and igl. Time to kick jks and get an igl for real. On the flip side Heroic are looking great!

They can't kick jks if they want to be still in NA. Naf and twistzz give them NA position Nertz and jks give them Asia position If they get another EU dude, they will automatically be transferred to EU and will have a much harder time to qualify

Why? They'll have 2 NA, 1 AS and 2 EU. Still no majority.

Drillas had 2 EU players in Kvem and Woro and played Asian RMRs.

They had 2 asian players and 1 of the EU players had a morrocan passports. Morrocans are seeded as asian players. Thus they used Hadji's morrocan citizenship to their advantage to play in the middle eastern qualifier, which qualified you to the asian rmr. Then Ansalem left and they didnt have enough players from asia but since they qualified already they played nontheless with said substitute. IDK if the rules are "if 2 NA and 2 EU you play EU" is correct but the whole drillas thing is a different context and had a different thing going for it.
2025-01-30 09:14

The rule got changed because of drillas. Now if you have 2 EU and 2 NA for example the team will have to play in EU because it is the stronger region
2025-01-30 11:34
0
There are no rules for that lmao. They would be 2 NA and 2 EU, they'll be grouped on a region that'll give them the further major invites. And if they fall out of top 5 of NA VRS and lose out on Major invites, well they would already disband anyway. Since that would require Col/M80 to beat them at rankings lol

hltv.org/news/40781/valve-enforces-major.. "In the event that a team would be invited to a particular stage based on more than one regional VRS, they are considered to have been invited based on the region with greater representation in the Major (i.e., Europe, then America, then Asia)," it is explained in the rulebook." Essentially, if they have 2 EU and 2 NA, they automatically go to EU

Only if they are part of the same major stage invite, which seems a bit impossible atm And what does it matter, you play everyone in the major lol. There is no more Rmr

There is still MRQ, which is essentially RMR for teams that don't get a direct invite to the major. So if they don't get a direct invite to the major by not having enough VRS points, which in this moment kinda looks like it, they will get an MRQ invite, and if they have 2 EU players on the team, they automatically will be assigned to EU as that's the region with the highest representation. So by keeping jks, they get a guaranteed NA MRQ if they don't get a direct invite

There is no MRQ when you're as high as Liquid atm, like there's a huge gap between Liquid rn as a perenial top 10 team to not having a direct invite. Again if they sucked so bad that Col stole their spot, they would have long redo their roster again.
2025-01-30 10:14

All of that should not matter for org like Liquid, they are supposed to be fighting for trophies so they need to be winning vs the best. Qualification route does not matter, they should sacrifice one of the players for an igl especially when 2 proven ones are open in market.

Ehhh it CAN be done. 2017 stewie2k 2016 niko 2021ish blamef (can't remember exact year) I'd even argue fallen and jame should maybe be considered here. Neither were the top fraggers of their teams but they were certainly setup as stars in their teams. Issue is 1.) just because it CAN be done , doesn't mean twistzz can do it. 2.) only 2 of those "star igls" were renowned for their tactics. And they happen to be awpers which twistzz is not. 3.) The most successful examples of rifling stars calling are those 3 examples I listed. And none are particularly impressive. Stewie was super impressive for it being his rookie year in tier 1. But remove that context and it was just stewie calling for himself, with typical rank s pug style calling, while fragging out like a madman. Niko was the most impressive example and it's specifically for how well he carried fragging wise. Nothing to do with his calling ability. Blamef in 2021 was pretty impressive but he had to call around himself too much to his teams detriment in order to get his numbers. Notice how all the rifling examples theres nothing stand out about their calling? Only their fragging? So yeah when the best examples are stewie and niko, unless you get into awpers which twistzz is NOT one of. Well twistzz would have to be a trailblazer, the first to do it, to be a truly world class star fragger igl as a rifle. So yeah, I'd say it CAN be done. It's just incredibly unlikely that it SHOULD be done. Or rather its incredibly unlikely that twistzz will manage to do it at a world class level. It's certainly possible though. If an awper can do it to a world class level I see no reason we won't eventually have a rifler who can do it as well.

tn1r and yngxstr are great. just need to replace sunpayus for now. nilo would be great. and yes +siuhy -lnz xfloud is ok for now, but he isn't 'that special player'. just like playing the piano with no emotions, knows how to press the correct notes.

Sunpayus is good sniper, dont need to replace him, lnz shoots well in the captain's place. By the way, they can try to replace xfloud. But in general they just need more experience in this new team, the way they lose rounds 2 vs 4 or 5 yesterday was sad to see
