CCT has announced the invites for CCT Season 2 Europe Series 17, with 12 teams receiving invites for the group stage, whilst eight sides received berths directly into the playoffs.

16 teams will fight out a Swiss-system BO3 group stage, with the top eight making it to the playoffs. There they will join the teams invited to the playoffs to play out a single-elimination BO3 bracket.

fnatic, and B8 find themselves among the invites for the group stage, whilst sides ranked higher in the VRS like HEROIC, ENCE, Passion UA and 9 Pandas will start the event in the playoffs. The invited teams join four who have qualified for the group stage, namely ECSTATIC, Fire Flux, Betclic and moneyF (formerly Into the Breach).

The announcement also stated that Imperial Valkyries and BetBoom withdrew from the tournament, making room for OG and Alliance to secure invites.

Notably missing from the team list for Europe Series 17 are Ninjas in Pyjamas, who fell to Fire Flux in the closed qualifier to miss out on a spot. The European squad also missed Europe Series 16 thanks to a closed qualifier loss CYBERSHOKE.

The event comes after Europe's last CCT event, Europe Series 16, had its VRS ranked status revoked amidst controversy regarding invites for the event, with teams overlooked despite qualifying via VRS ranking.

Europe Series 17 is listed as a ranked event, so grants the opportunity for teams to earn much-needed VRS points. fnatic have seen their VRS ranking slip amidst a slow start to the year, whilst teams like ENCE have the opportunity to improve their ranking and earn invites to more prestigious events.

Metizport initially dropped out of CCT 16, but came back when they got an invite directly to the playoffs. I'm not sure what they are up to... EDIT: Maybe they want to focus on BLAST Rising? It looks like there could be some overlap there.

Maybe you're thinking of Yalla compass where they dropped out. And if they were invited to CCT 17 they would get playoff invites which does not overlap with BLAST as playoff is played probably around 12-13 of February

You are right, I was thinking of YaLLa Compass, thanks for the reminder. They were only ranked 30th on the invite date (Jan 6th), which means they would not have gone straight to the playoffs for CCT 17.
