PGL Astana qualifier details announced

Four teams will earn spots at the $1.25 million event via regional qualifiers.

Qualifiers for the Kazakh event will kick off Friday

PGL has announced the qualifying details for PGL Astana 2025, the Romanian company's third event of the year. Slated for May 10-18, the event will feature a $1.25 million prize pool and 16 teams.

Twelve of those spots have been filled through invitations, while four places will go to the winners of qualifiers held in Europe, Asia, North America, and South America.

Spirit, NAVI and G2 among PGL Astana invites

There will be four open qualifiers per region, with Asia divided into four sub-regions (China, MENA, Oceania and Rest of Asia). By default, eight teams will advance from the open to the closed qualifiers, but that number may change if teams decline their invitation and no replacements are available.

All open qualifiers will use a single-elimination, best-of-one format, except for the quarter-finals and semi-finals, which will be best-of-three series. For full details, check out PGL Astana's qualifier rulebook.

The dates for open qualifiers are the following across all regions:

Open Qualifier #1 - March 14-15

Open Qualifier #2 - March 16-17

Open Qualifier #3 - March 21-22

Open Qualifier #4 - March 23-24

The closed qualifier dates are as follows:

Closed Qualifier Round #1 - March 27-30

Closed Qualifier Round #2 - March 31-April 1

Trophies in CS are so boring. Would be cool if the trophy design was based on actual CS imagery, like AK or AWP shaped trophies, maybe even trophies that reference certain maps in their design, instead of this weird warped geometry / goblet shape that every trophy has.

0/8 that's like saying trophies in football need to be shaped like footballs instead of what they are now

They did it right this time, announce the invites before the quals even opened, though they should also announce the closed qualifier teams earlier too, which they havent yet for some reason. Hope to see which teams got invited before the first open qualifier goes live.

Who knows why PGL prohibits streaming open qualifiers for players and streamers if they themselves don't cover them?

They dont, you just need permission. Send them an email, and ask them if you can follow a team for the open and closed quals. If you work for an org already tell them that as well, so that they dont give another streamer/caster your team to follow.

The problem is, these tournaments are free VRS farm because money earned helps you to keep your points even if you don't perform well. So mediocre teams can just win occasionally against each other and never let anyone else replace them in the top ranking. You need to bomb out of several tournaments in a row to lose your spots, or skip too many. As a result it's always the same teams even though they never do anything exciting.
