FL4MUS topped the board with a 1.46 rating

Virtus.pro have defeated FaZe in the opening round of BLAST Open Lisbon with a 2-1 scoreline (Anubis 12-16, Ancient 16-13, Dust2 13-0).

The result means Virtus.pro will face off against Vitality in the upper-bracket semi-final, where they will need to stop Mathieu "⁠ZywOo⁠" Herbaut and company's win streak to qualify for the playoffs.

FaZe, meanwhile, will meet Astralis in a lower-bracket clash.

Virtus.pro went for a surprising Anubis pick, and the start was far from ideal for the Russian side. Håvard "⁠rain⁠" Nygaard's Deagle triple secured a second-round eco for FaZe before Jonathan "⁠EliGE⁠" Jablonowski's 1vs3 extended the lead. Kaisar "⁠ICY⁠" Faiznurov ended the first half with a clutch of his own, and coupled with a solid T-side, Virtus.pro secured overtime.

FaZe then shifted into a higher gear and secured a 16-12 win, however, thanks to Finn "⁠karrigan⁠" Andersen's impact on the CT side. The 34-year-old put up a 1.14 overall rating on the defense (0.22 ahead of his closest teammate).

Ancient was a similarly close-fought affair, with FaZe winning the pistol before getting reeled back in by Virtus.pro, who brought the scoreline back to a tied game at the half.

Virtus.pro were the better team at the start of the second half and went 11-8 up, only for FaZe to come alive in the dying moments once again to tie up the scores at 11-11. rain then put up an unlikely triple kill on the B defense to get FaZe up to 12, but were eventually bested by Virtus.pro with a 16-13 scoreline thanks to Timur "⁠FL4MUS⁠" Marev's 30 kills.

Dust2 was the decider, but the classic map delivered an anticlimactic end to an otherwise exciting series. Virtus.pro ran rings around FaZe and were the better team in virtually every aspect of the game, which helped them secure a 13-0 victory to continue their upper-bracket journey.

VP find form after missing out on EPL

Virtus.pro had a hot-and-cold start to 2025 but didn't secure an invite for ESL Pro League S21, and it looks like that had a positive effect on the team, despite Denis "⁠electroNic⁠" Sharipov being coy on the changes within the team.

"We didn't practice that much or do anything special for this game," the Russian captain said. "I'm watching a lot of games, how other leaders control their emotions. I am still far away from the best IGL, but I'm trying to be the best version of myself."

The win also marks a huge boost to Virtus.pro's Major chances, as the team is hunting down Astralis for the final Stage 2 direct invite. With the Danes already in the lower bracket, a good run at this tournament could be enough for Virtus.pro to overtake.

With an incredibly tough test against Vitality up next, it remains to be seen if this result was down more to their improvement or FaZe's struggles.

his trophy cabinet comes mostly from the effort of others, not his own. even when faze started cs2, even there was admitting that ropz figured things out and they played around ropz work. does karrigan look like a hard worker to u? looks more like a slob to me. ropz is the real deal. look at loud stars, just how many of them do good? karrigan, alistair, hext, yes apex (fraud also),graviti. look at the animal kingdom, weaker animals intimidate predators by trying to look big. thats exactly what karrigan does. compare interviews with niko, ropz, zywoo and this slob karrigan. there had never been a greater fraud in this game than karrigan.

They were never nearly as good under Alex's lead as they have been since apEX took the reins. It's pretty clear that to be dominant in such a competitive game you need to be on top of your game on all aspects; a good IGL isn't sufficient, although necessary. However I do think apex is a much better IGL than he was even a year ago.

For all u are saying, the game is 100% rng, and we should scrap all IGLs. Thats what u are saying.
