G2 make BLAST Lisbon playoffs over The MongolZ

The Mongolian squad's four-event playoff streak ended at the hands of G2.

G2 will face off against MOUZ in the quarter-final

G2 defeated The MongolZ with a 2-0 scoreline (Ancient 13-11, Dust2 13-4) to qualify for the BLAST Open Lisbon quarter-final and eliminate the Mongolian side.

Janusz "⁠Snax⁠" Pogorzelski's troops will now face off against MOUZ in the MEO Arena on Friday at 19:30 .

The MongolZ began their Ancient pick well and went 5-1 up after winning the pistol, but G2's CT began to gather steam soon after. Ilya "⁠m0NESY⁠" Osipov warmed up his AWP, which allowed his team to take a two-round lead at the switch, one that they extended to 11-5 after a hot start to their offense.

G2 then had some issues closing out the map, with The MongolZ bringing it back to 11-12 before Nikita "⁠HeavyGod⁠" Martynenko secured a 1vs2 clutch to win it for G2.

G2 were able to take that momentum into their Dust2 pick, as they recovered from losing an early 5vs2 on the B site with aplomb. They upset the applecart in the following round with an eco victory and strung together six rounds in a row to take a healthy 9-3 lead.

G2 kept their foot on the gas in the second half, breaking down The MongolZ defense time after time to secure a statement 13-4 win. Azbayar "⁠Senzu⁠" Munkhbold at least spared his blushes after he got his first kill in round 13 to finish the map on seven after getting an ace late on.

G2 rise in Valve Rankings

With the April 7 invite date for the Austin Major fast approaching, all eyes are on the movements of the Valve ranking.

Today's win propelled G2 into the top six, which means they are currently set for a Stage 3 invite after overtaking Falcons.

The result also means that Astralis are left without a direct invite at the moment, as they have been overtaken by Virtus.pro in the race for the No. 10 spot in the EU rankings — the final Stage 2 invite up for grabs.

The MongolZ's playoff run halted

The Mongolian side made four playoffs in a row following their top-eight appearance at the Shanghai Major, but their run comes to an end today.

The MongolZ beat Liquid and M80 to get themselves within one victory of playoffs but couldn't overcome G2 and Natus Vincere to exit the event with a 7-8th finish and lose out on a chance to gather some much-needed arena experience for the squad.

Really solid from Heavygod, wish Faze would have an anchor as good as him but instead of that they have Frozen as the anchor dragging them to the bottom of tier2

heavygod solid anchor?? he is good anchor in real life about 150 kilos. Players like that fat russian pig and similar (flamez, mezii, malbs...) got lucky they can play with top 4 players otherwise he would sank with "titanic" called clown9.

Wow you certainly can come up with good arguments to defend your favourite player BaitzenF but don't worry your argument applies really well to this situation, after all frozen is doing his best to sink faze clan to bottom of tier 2.

wow, you came to conclusion frozen is my fav player. He is not. I dont have any fav player or fav team for the record. I dont have a problem to admit when frozen plays like shit or any other player or team. Im laughing more from players (mentioned ones) who got lucky in their career atm and have a chance to play with top4 players (niko, zywoo, donk, monesy). Chopper, magixx, Hally they achieved absolutely nothing for years in Spirit before donk joined. "Roooopz we all love youuuu" what a move to join vitality and zywoo will carry your ass 80% of the time because in 2024 you did shit in Faze. Apex career would also not be so shiny without zywoo. He would ended 3 years ago with full grey hair. How was G2 without monesy? "Fantastic" right? I can go on and on. I give credit to all teams and players who are without superstar players, so called underdogs and trying to get best result possible.

Honestly? G2 look like one of the absolute most scary teams when firing on all cylinders... If they continue this form throughout the rest of the tournament, I'd rate they could take anybody on.
