Infographic: Vitality's triple win in numbers

Vitality smashed records, challenged others and achieved some big firsts on the way to back-to-back-to-back trophies in Katowice, Stockholm and Lisbon.

Vitality return to competition on Monday, heading into IEM Melbourne with hopes of completing the ESL Grand Slam and adding another new trophy to their cabinet after the impressive start to 2025.

But whatever happens next week, Dan "apEX" Madesclaire and company have already racked up some impressive numbers in their runs to the IEM Katowice, ESL Pro League Season 21 and BLAST Open Lisbon titles, smashing all-time records and challenging others.

Here's a quick infographic showcasing their back-to-back-to-back championship campaigns:

They dont need to win major for beiing best team of the year. If they win every single event they attend this year 10+- and lose major. They will still be higher than that team who won literally nothing except major. Major are overrated af. If it wouldnt be for a sticker money majors would be rated as mickey mouse events. Online qual. Bo1. B03 grandfinals..... Literally so far every single big event in 2025 had bo5 finals.

To an extend you are right The big difference is just that everyone gives 110% at majors, some even save strats and counterplays. It's the highest tier of competition. Also idk what you qualm with the play-in to the major is. It literally just has 3x more teams compete for a spot. The only 2 major differences is that it has an extra play-in stage and it invites 8 less teams through VRS but instead allows 16 teams to qual through online tournaments. The only weakness is bo1 but some level of randomness isn't necessarily a bad thing. Upsets help viewership sometimes.

i dont think top top teams treat much differently kato, cologne and majors tbh. smaller teams yes because you have the added bonus of stickers money but overall i dont think performances for top teams varies so much it makes a difference between events like kato, cologne and majors

Yes and No Cologne and Katowice are basically majors but also not really. Astralis has never won Cologne and it's kind of an ironic joke to make fun of them for that. But that's all it is, a joke. Well NiKo has won both Katowice and Cologne and yet he will forever be remembered for not winning a major (Assuming Falcons don't). Do you get what im going at? I don't think there is a big difference in the level of play, but the pressure of the major is different. We have also seen teams specifically saving strats for the major. Obvious example being Astralis vs Liquid at the berlin major. The best comparison is like the World Cup and the European Championship. Basically all the best teams play in both but the European Championship doesn't get close to the world cup. The prestige is just on another level. I know it's not a perfect analogy

Noone asked how many colognes u won, people ask how many majors you won, and teams know this, i dont disagree teams surely use maily A tier strats, but on major its the best S tier strats they have

i dont disagree with this, i only argue that for top teams i dont think that difference is as big as some of the spectators say it is, just that. putting numbers as an example, if fans say in kato and cologne they do 50% and in major 100% i think it is 80 or 90% in kato and cologne compared to the major and for top tier cs this difference is very very slim
2025-04-19 18:36

For now. But, if majors do not evolve, I think that with time to come it will be more and more irrelevant. Same as people value more Champions league rather than the WDC because the level is globaly lower. Since Rio, majors do not shine -Outsiders winning Rio: zero impact -Vitality winning Paris: zero suspens prophetic win -Navi Copenhagen win: "best team" of the year with random IEM/EPL + WDC (lul) -Spirit Shanghai win, didn't last long What I mean: majors win are more randoms or are not part of a domination anymore, and, (second factor) with the amount of tournaments are not impactful as before. Yes, there were upsets back in the days (Krakow/Boston), but fare was more important. If Vitaliy wins Austin Major, then it will be (since 2021/2022) a convincing win.
2025-04-19 18:49

I kinda agree, it is sad that majors are now not so representative. You can suck at it and be good the rest of the year, being good, and being forgetable the rest of the year... Team can being poor the rest of the year and having a liferun

tbh there's too many. 2 a year is bad for it, kato and cologne are once a year. league's worlds are once a year, rocket league rlcs are once a year, i dont think a major being twice a year is good for the prestige of it

I agree, major should be once a year like in csgo. I know people like that, even for stickers money, it has to be once a year. We now have to much events.

add to that the fact that now we have 32 teams so it is bigger to begin with. it shouldnt be twice a year. even blast world final which apart from being closed circuit till 2024 was almost the same level as kato and cologne organization wise is once a year

Major are important for the ecoystem because it is an "open league", but 32 teams is ridiculous. At least, if most teams were europeans, then I would have agreed. But what is the point of having so much asian/american/brasilian teams?

Yeah, they won both Major's and were the best team of 2019. Liquid won the IGS in the quickest time ever in 2019, putting an end to the Astralis era that took place prior, post Katowice 2019. Astralis' 2019 was arguably more successful than their 2018 run but they had far higher peaks in 2018 and won more, leading to all five players being in HLTV's Top 20 for the first time ever.

No, I mean a number of total events played / won. Like a third number on this page. It could be neat and indicative. Right now it's not obvious that majors are not included in notable trophies (as if majors are not notable) and to compare "winningest" players one have to manually count. UPD: Also achievements tab including majors in LANs but not including big online trophies while notable trophies include online and don't include majors is very confusing.
