Astralis Sports Director on dismissal: "It's part of the game"

Kasper Straube has commented on his dismissal following Astralis' Major failure and his future.

Kasper Straube oversaw Astralis during three of their five Major qualifier failures

Astralis announced its decision to dismiss Sports Director Kasper Straube on Tuesday as part of a sweeping set of moves made in the aftermath of Astralis' failure to qualify for the BLAST.tv Austin Major.

In a comment to Dust2.dk, the former director has commented on the organization's decision, accepting it as "part of the game" in a competitive field.

"It's no secret that the ambitions and results in Astralis have not matched. That's why I think it's natural the management has made the decision they have. In a professional environment, we are all constantly measured and weighed," he said.

Straube had been part of the organization for nearly two years after taking over the position from Kasper Hvidt in July 2023.

He oversaw the squad through three of their five consecutive Major qualifier failures and several blockbuster moves that failed to bring the organization closer to its goal of returning to contention for trophies, including the signings of Martin "stavn" Lund, Jakob "jabbi" Nygaard and Casper "cadiaN" Møller, with whom he also worked in his previous positions as HEROIC's physiotherapist and later Head of Performance.

"I'm obviously disappointed that we didn't achieve the results we wanted," Straube said. "The results haven't been good enough compared to the expectations I had, but I'm satisfied with the work I delivered during my time at Astralis."

"I'm at a point where I think I still have a lot to offer," he went on when asked about his future. "You learn your whole life, and I've also learned a lot during my time at Astralis that I can use going forward.

"Whether my future lies in or outside of esports depends a lot on what projects come up. I can certainly see my future in esports, but not at any price."

To be fair I think there was a lot out of his control. Astralis is a criminally mismanaged org that can't keep a stable roster together at all

He’s one of the people responsible for the roster changes. It’s absolutely in control of him.

Sports Director seems like a position to be exactly in control of that "mismanagement" doesnt it

He's part of that mismanagement. That brother has been stealing paychecks tbh.

That's a classical corporate response to look appealing for his next venture. Those people do not speak any human language, corporate language is wholly made out of phrases and randomly placed words that makes them appear as hardworking, committed and essentially a perfect person for any job.

I mean the fact that he got the heroic core back together along with Dev1ce and staehr should’ve been a career securing move, but for whatever reason the heroic core is unbelievably washed across the board.

jabbi can perform, Stavn's aim cannot be compensated by anyone. Even if he had an alien brain thinking 5 steps ahead of everyone his time to kill is disgraceful. And it shows, he has 0 confidence to get into 50-50 duels. I do not know if he has a health issue that's stopping him, or is he just lazy to practice aim. Or is he just not watching what other players are doing and are literally connecting the first shot twice as fast as he does. And are not missing next 4-5 while for him it's still a 50-50 where those go. I lack any evidence that star rifler that bad can be a part of a winning team.

Agreed, on paper they made good moves, but yeah it did not materialize as planned. If 2y (or 5 major attempts) is enough time to develop a roster, idk. But Cadian was not a good move IMO. So he has to stand accountable for the lack lustered results - "its part of the game" as they say

Not Jabbi. Jabbi has been one person who has been delivered most often then not in Astralis success.

you forget they got Cadian after the drama and they knew there are big role issues. And when you look at heroic old lineup... all do fine except this 3 guys Astralis took. They got the wrong guys of heroic.

It is indeed "part of the game" but fact is that in "the game" you lost and you lost hard. You still have the potential to do good in the world obviously, just not in esports. It is one thing to be incompetant in something and realize it and move on (as such is life, you can not master everything), however it takes a advanced type of ignorance to be a waste of space for this long and stay in the industry. Move on and stay strong but more importantly stay out of esports for everyones sake.

On paper, destroying heroic and bringing almost their whole roster is a great move. Heroic + device is great, sad they didnt get sjuush instead of staehr. Problem is the roster is somehow washed, and I cant imagine theyre friends outside the server.

Sjuush is good.. But he is far from the swizz knife that Staehr has shown to be. Staehr plays a ton of unfamiliar positions, and still (IMO) outperforms ex-heroic, who he is literally helping setup more than vice versa. - Stavn + Sjuush Though they can´t admit to themselves they wasted 1 mil on him (jabbi fine). and will keep playing him until someone hits them with a sledgehammer, waking them up.

flair checks out but yeah, he is better and deserves better than astralis atm but when they got stabbi they could've and should've gotten teses and sjuush instead. It wouldn't cause a whole saga of role conflicts that led to kicking blamef then dev1ce igling then trying to bring cadian to "fix" stavn and achieving a total of nothing at all and downgrading their roster compared to their starting point

To get Cadian to know, there is a role issue and Cadian doesn't have the ability to switch that even if he tries hard, which was the nail for losing his job. I don't know who got the idea... But to get fired is well deserved.

My honest opinion is, finally they made two good decisions in a row, after five years I can say this was one of the best moves they couldve made. Now buy Xyph from MOUZ, put him as the coach, and you got yourselves a top10 potential. However stavns aim is ded, and jabbi is still too 50/50. They lack the confidence to take duals, take chances and be the opener, before someone steps up to do so they wont even crack top50 in my opinion. But lets see what will become of Asstraloose, I am not sold, but its the right move at the right time. Finally!
