paiN secure final Austin Major playoff spot over Virtus.pro

The South American squad denied VP a a ten-round comeback in the final round of regulation on the Dust2 decider map.

paiN will play in front of the fans at the Moody Center

paiN beat Virtus.pro in a three-map series to bring the BLAST.tv Austin Major group stage to an end and securing the final spot in the quarter-finals.

Rodrigo "biguzera" Bittencourt and his men got off on the right foot on Mirage, their map pick, where eight T rounds were more than enough to leave Virtus.pro in the dust, as they went on to take it 13-8 after the half, with Lucas "nqz" Soares leading the way with a 1.69 rating.

Virtus.pro's Inferno pick brought the series back to an even 1-1, and they won it in even more dominating fashion, winning the T side 7-5, but then putting up a wall on the defense to close it out 13-6.

Dust2 survived the veto to play host as the tiebreaker, and from the very beginning it was paiN who dominated on the attack. The Spanish-speaking duo of Franco "dgt" Garcia and David "dav1deuS" Tapia Maldonado led the way. Up 9-1, the Chilean rifler downed three with a beautiful spraydown, after which his Uruguayan teammate won a 1vs1 to get paiN on double digits.

After a 10-2 half, paiN couldn't close it out immediately as Virtus.pro worked on setting up a comeback. Denis "electroNic" Sharipov and company were successful all the way to the final round of regulation after winning six in a row while up against match point, but in the end could not pull through at the final hurdle as the South American team won a 2vs2 retake on B to seal the deal.

Does it feels deserved for you guys as well? Idk... yeah they won their matches and even tho it was against "good opposition" (on paper), something about the form of the teams they faced... idk this major is looking a bit mickey mouz with those brackets as well

imo furia definitely deserved it, but pain did get an easier road while also looking a little shaky against the already lower opposition they got as a brazilian i do hope furia won't choke against pain tho, cuz i don't think pain has any chance of making it to the final

tbf furia played a lot better but lost both pistols and some clutches, yet it was 13-11. and now it's bo3. clearly odd is on furia, but yea anything can happen

I can't with this "mickey mouse" reasoning. Either they've already faced the best opponent when they reach finals, or they have to play them in the finals. If it's not either, the "best" underperformed, lost to someone they shouldn't have, and thats on them. Or, like you describe, their form is shit. In that case, they def don't deserve to win either. Either way, the best team won. Thats literally all that matters. Its so dumb discrediting teams when their opponents make mistakes and they take advantage of it

There's no point trying to tell this to HLTV kids, they will never understand this; if their favourite doesn't win, it's a mickey mouse tourney, no matter what happens in the tournament...

I’m not disputing snows lack of skill. I’m questioning if changing one player, even for donk or someone with same amount of raw talent could take pain to top 10

There is no next after snow, they finally found a very good core, snow always has been worse than kauez btw. They replaced the wrong pieces and succeed, now there is only one left. paiN decision making is very good.

Deserved. Vp had been overperforming and getting good draws for way too long. But still, I’d like to have seen another team instead of pain, nothing against them, but they are not a top 8 team, barely top 20. Bracket is fucked and semis will decide the winner. It’s kinda sad.
