Community reacts: Overpass replaces Anubis

Changes to the MP9 and CT economy were welcomed, but a map pool change 10 days before Cologne divided opinion.

The community was handed a shock late last night (or this morning) when they found out that Anubis had been removed in favor of Overpass.

It's the third consecutive map pool switch following a Counter-Strike Major in a clear change to Valve's policy.

Like the release of Train, which came just eight days before the season began with BLAST Bounty in January, Valve have chosen to add Overpass back to the pool at the end of the player break rather than the start.

It's worse this time, with FISSURE Playground underway and IEM Cologne 10 days away as of the release. Tournament organizers swapped immediately in January for Train, and the same happened this time.

Outside of immediate ramifications, plenty of pros were glad to see an old favorite return: Not least Anubis permabanners like MOUZ or Falcons and Overpass superfans Astralis, and GamerLegion.

Ashley "⁠ash⁠" Battye even made sure to jokingly remind IGL Erik "⁠ztr⁠" Gustafsson — who is less of a fan of the map — that's it's his way or the highway.

David "⁠n0rb3r7⁠" Danielyan, meanwhile, who sports a 1.17 rating on Overpass compared to 1.08 overall reacted with glee.

As always with map swaps, joy was swapped with despair for Anubis specialists Aurora, Complexity, and Liquid.

Other elements of the update also saw praise, with Alex "⁠Mauisnake⁠" Ellenberg calling it a "Grade A" update for the esport.

Fun was also there to be had, as Inner Circle coach Piotr "⁠nawrot⁠" Nawrocki gave AWPer Olek "⁠hades⁠" Miskiewicz an immediate reminder of his lowest moment on the map.

Mihai "⁠iM⁠" Ivan also reminded ash about their 6-16 drubbing on Overpass together in the Paris Major final.

Skin traders were also hit by what Anomaly called the "biggest skin trading change since the introduction of the 7 day trade hold."
