Falcons skip BLAST Bounty as team list revealed

32 teams will compete for the trophy in the second iteration of BLAST Bounty, but Falcons will not be among them.

BLAST has announced the team list for BLAST Bounty Season 2, which is set to take place August 5-17. 32 teams have accepted invites for the competition, with Falcons the only side in the current top five to decline their invite.

The tournament begins online a mere two days after the end of IEM Cologne, and the LAN portion of the event ends on August 17, with Esports World Cup set to start in Riyadh on August 20.

GamerLegion, 3DMAX, and Lynn Vision are other notable absences from the tournament, which is otherwise set to feature the majority of the top 30 teams in the VRS global ranking.

The event is split into two stages, an online portion and a LAN final. The 32 teams will play out two series in the online portion, with the eight teams who win both series heading through to the LAN stage. Those eight sides will head to Malta to play out a single-elimination BO3 bracket, with a BO5 final.

you cant play second half without playing first. Falcons likely want to win EWC because it has much more financial incentives as an org to focus on EWC, which is also a fully LAN event unlike Bounty.

Blast is dropping to T2 TO pretty much due to so many online events as well as constant requests for rule exceptions for events that they advertise as T1. Online portion of the event has no monetary reward, meaning there's 0 VRS incentive to play it. Falcons certainly do not need the money. And because it's online, it's not really worth it for the brand either. I assume many teams that were partners with Blast are now chasing those participation tokens for the big piece of the pie. You have to attend everything from Blast in order to get that money.

as if other teams and coaches like Blad3 enjoy playing online either. i get that they’re #9 on ranking now thanks to FPG, but that can change fast, especially considering how inconsistent GL were earlier (e.g., going 0-3 at the Astana LAN). maybe I'm wrong but I just don’t think they have the privilege to pick and choose events like top-5 teams do.

Maybe, but if you know you are going to underperform at an event (and BLAST Bounty is a bit of a weird event), playing in it might be worse for your VRS than just skipping it outright.

Perhaps that's me, but HLTV rank Falcon current #6 and call them part of current 5 in this very news. So is HLTV rank meaningless according to HLTV or did I miss something? The other possibility is using VRS when it fit their agenda better to make more clicks. Fraud like behavior in either case I suspect.

Falcons where the top ranked team at PGL Bucharest, with Mongolz being the only other top 5 team. You then had 3 lower Top 10 teams and the rest was low top 15 and less. Do you honestly want to tell me that is a Tier 1 event? 7 top 10 teams, none of which is a top 3 one and 9 teams outside the top 10? Listen, I know you Falcons are coping, but be somewhat real. PGL Bucharest was a 1.5 Tier event at best if you wanna be generous.
