FURIA defeat G2 to secure Cologne playoffs
FURIA's European imports shone bright to take down G2 and secure a place in the LANXESS Arena.

FURIA have secured an IEM Cologne quarter-final berth thanks to a 2-0 win over G2, crushing their European opponents on Dust2 (13-6) before closing things out in a hard-fought Inferno (16-14).
Dust2 was a one-sided affair in favour of FURIA as the Brazilian-Euro mix outplayed G2 at every turn. A couple of high-impact moments produced by Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa were the only bright spot for G2, as otherwise the likes of Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato and Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis ran riot.
It was a far more competitive affair on Inferno. G2 won out on their CT half thanks to some excellent work in Banana by malbsMd and Matúš "MATYS" Šimko, although YEKINDAR's impact kept the score close at halftime.
G2 extended their lead with a second half pistol victory but FURIA answered right back, dragging G2 into a cycle of force-buys that they kept losing. Eventually G2 broke through, finding a big gap in FURIA's defense and converting a 2v4, leading them to 11 rounds. Up stepped Danil "molodoy" Golubenko with a brave smoke push in a nigh-impossible 2v2, which fended off map point and allowed FURIA to force OT.
FURIA held firm in OT, bagging three CT rounds off the back of some magic from molodoy and YEKINDAR before closing out on their T side with a clean split onto a stacked A bombsite.
molodoy shines whilst SunPayus wilts
The biggest difference in this series was the two AWPers. molodoy posted nearly 30 more frags than his counterpart and repeatedly produced high-impact rounds, whilst Álvaro "SunPayus" García was almost invisible.
FalleN back in the LANXESS for first time since 2017
Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo won IEM Cologne back-to-back in 2016 and 2017. He has not been back in the playoffs since.
FURIA resurgence since adding YEKINDAR and molodoy has been remarkable, and nothing exemplifies their improvement better than securing FalleN another showing on one of Counter-Strike's most prestigious stages.
