ZywOo: "We are not confident about a lot of things right now"

The French AWPer admitted that recent results have left Vitality playing more hesitantly.

Vitality's form has suffered a drastic downturn since the dawn of the new season, hitting a new low at Esports World Cup as the European combine suffered back-to-back series defeats to finish the tournament in fourth place.

Falcons finish third at EWC over Vitality

A far cry form the seven-tournament winning streak of earlier in the year, Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut admits that confidence has taken a hit. "Sometimes maybe we hesitate too much," ZywOo told HLTV. "We are not confident about the peek... so of course now it's a bit tougher."

Despite Vitality's stumbling form, ZywOo is confident in his team to bounce back. "I have no doubt that this team is going to work again, work as we did in the first half of the year. We're going to come back stronger."

With another disappointing tournament campaign behind him, ZywOo spoke with HLTV about Vitality's defeat by Falcons, why his team are struggling, and what they can do to revive their form.

Listen to the interview here.

What do you think went wrong in that series?

I mean when we are losing 13-4 on Train, everything went wrong on our side. The communication, the teamplay, individually, nothing went good on our side. It's almost everything, I won't say it's only one thing, or about motivation or mood, it was about everything.

I heard yesterday from flameZ that you are feeling a bit sick. How did it affect your performance?

I think it affected me a bit, but mostly the team. I think they didn't feel the energy like I do usually for the game, or when I need to scream more or anything I didn't do that. In terms of individual level, of course after TYLOO is was feeling a bit more shaky so obviously I would say it's not because of my illness we got this result, it's more of a team thing.

When watching the team on the server it looks like confidence has suffered a little bit. Does it feel like that when you're playing?

Yeah. Sometimes maybe we hesitate too much, we are not confident about the peek, we are not confident about a lot of things right now, so obviously it's tougher. In the first half (of the year) everyone was confident about the peek and we could be comfortable behind someone, so of course now it's a bit tougher. I also think we expected to do the same thing as the first half (of the year) but it's tougher to do the same right now. Like you said, I think everyone is feeling that, no one is feeling comfortable.

One of the things that made Vitality so strong in the first half of the season was that you were always fighting, no matter how the game was going. Why do you think you have maybe lost that a little bit?

That's a good question. Sometimes in the game I don't feel that, but maybe I'm wrong or maybe I'm right. For now, at the Esports World Cup, it was a bit different because even flameZ was a bit… not off, but he was a bit more tired than usual, so I think it was tougher for the rest of the team to put the energy in and try to push. When you are not as five, it is tougher to put in the same energy for the rest. I think we will keep believing even though we are down, but it is tougher to come back when we are not comfortable about anything and we are hesitating a lot. So I think that's the overall thing.

What do you think you can do moving forwards to recapture your best form?

I think the first thing is we're going to have a good talk about what went wrong, what we need to bring into the server again, and I have no doubt that this team is going to work again, work as we did in the first half of the year. We're going to come back stronger. We kind of need this bad period to come back stronger. We still believe in the team, we still believe we can come back stronger, and we're going to get back on the top.

They need some changes to come back. -Xqtzzz when?? They are using same strats from last season, all look tired, bad team play etc. Get Blade/flashie type coach who would give a new vision to the team.

Don't really know what Input does Zqtzzz has In Vitality, he's & they are very discreet as to what he really does bring Into the project so I will not spacegoat him even tho I don't really like the guy. But Id be Intrested seeing what another coach like sAw could bring to Vitality tbh

that is not champion mentaily, you know for sure everybody will study you. U may not change your strat every match but u always need to have secret strat that people dont know about. When they took like 8 times ( mouz) 10 times (mongolz) play against you to figure you out. while they take so so much time to study u,and u still not come up with new stuff to slap them immediately when the old strat not working? what the fak u do in that time anyway as a coach ?

We still have tons of tournaments this season. Even if they win nothing else, it was still the most dominant season in cs history so nothing to complain about there.

Tough to go in every event thinking you should win by default. The player break ruined Vitality, without it they would have just kept going.

tbh i dont see them fixing anything before pro league, they fucked up preparation after the ct economy change (and map change). back to back events dont really give time to fix preparation errors. if they dont fix for pro league then it is a bad situation but till then it's at most a mistake on their prep. and we kinda saw that since their t sides dont really work even considering the 5 not shooting that well after the break either. and tbh you should remmeber astralis did kinda the same during their era

I think they're in contract with blast to attend every event but that really sucks because what they'd need right now is a mental reset. Their T side calls were a bit off but it looks even worse because their confidence is off. It feels like no one want to be the one to make a mistake and it makes them make mistakes even more. Which is weird because you wouldn't think after that dominant of a season they would shit their pants against mongolz of all teams which they basically never lost against prior to bounty

There's almost a month between Blast London ending and EPL S22 beginning. Why would others take it chill when they'll have a break after the event? Sure some teams are in Fissure but not the best of the best excluding MongolZ who had to skip London.

Mostly because of low prize pool. It's a fourth of EWC's or FISSURE's prize pool. Even the upcoming Starladder will have a bigger prize pool, even though most teams are gonna be from T2/3. But maybe I'm wrong and VRS matters more than prize for some teams.

They need to regroup and get their confidence back. You can tell they are very hesitant when they play. More risks mean more rewards. It feels like that are trying to counter strat the expected counter strats to their strats but they are sacrificing clinical pace and aggression.

Olof won 4, dont count 1 because it was a 8 team tournament with only 4 relevant teams with karrigan and after karrigan his performance was already showing signs of going to shit. Guardian didnt win shit while playing with karrigan, or after. Broky and Rain are still in Faze and even though they WON at the time doesnt mean they can win now. Its either Karrigan whose not the IGL he once was as time moved on leaving him behind, broky and rain is not playing good which isnt the case imo, or simply ropz was that important to the team.

Man HLTV writers are a bunch of asswipes. The amount of negative terms and descriptives you used to describe Vitality in this piece, after just a few map losses, is utterly baffling. The best CS2 team so far and you might as well be calling for them to disband. Just stop it
