The VRS impact of Esports World Cup

The MongolZ are shaking up the world order after finally getting their hands on a Big Event trophy.

The MongolZ jumped over MOUZ for third place on the VRS

The MongolZ' crowning as the champions following a straightforward win over Aurora in the grand final drew a curtain on the Esports World Cup on Sunday.

As any competitition with a prize purse of over $1 million would, the event had a significant impact on the Valve Regional Standings, seeing four teams make up solid ground on the ladder and a few suffer the consequences of a result below their expectations.

The biggest risers of the event were second-placed Aurora and third-placed Falcons, who each earned around 160 points off the back of their best results yet in the new season to jump to sixth and fifth place on the global standings.

EWC's impact on the attending teams, as shown on the event page

The MongolZ's first Big Event victory is also felt in the Mongolian side jumping over MOUZ for third place on the ranking and closing the gap to Vitality, whom they beat for the second consecutive time now after BLAST Bounty.

HEROIC were also rewarded for their stunning upset of Spirit in the opening round with a four-spot jump, to 14th, which will come as a solid boost to help them solidify a spot at the StarLadder Major.

On the other side of the coin were the likes of Astralis, Natus Vincere and FaZe, whose last-placed exits from the Riyadh event at the hands of underdogs caused them to drop two to three spots around the top 10.

Also notable is the lack of improvement for Liquid, who are currently projected to miss out on a StarLadder Major Budapest invite and will need to make their case at BLAST Open London and FISSURE Playground 2, the last two big events that will count towards the Major invites in full by early October.

Below is the current, provisional ranking as of August 25, including how each factor contributes to the teams' totals:

Fr, they gained around 60 points for that one win. As long as they don't bomb out of Fissure they're basically guaranteed stage 3 in the major now.

Sure, but even though Valve only posts an official ranking once a month, the ranking is dynamic and changes based on what your opponents are doing as well.

Same reason that MOUZ lost points- tyloo lost to 4th place, mouz lost to 3rd place. Heroic and 3dmax gain points because they lost to the 2 best teams.

Exactly Beating the 7th and 9th ranked teams when you're rank 12 doesn't mean you're top 6 in the world :D

Oh so now it's not about who they beat at all, you just deem them to be better than the others based on nothing Aurora is mostly at the level of G2 if you're comparing teams by their results in the last 3 months for example, a single result in a single elimination bracket doesn't change that, although it obviously puts them above G2 themselves. I obviously back them to make some playoffs in the near future but I'm definitely not expecting them to make playoffs as a rule which is what you need to see from a top 6 team.

I didn't deviate from anything. Also hilarious that hltv ranking gives 0 shit about prize money and Aurora are 5th place there. It's almost as if you're wrong about how important prize money is, and you were already corrected in another thead where you said the same thing and then complained how it wasn't easy to find. So someone else already did the work for you, corrected you, and then you go again spewing the same crap that was already proven wrong. Do better.

disclosing huh, what for? no rules in esports thats why gambling, betting, military spending, blood money, crypto (not real money but whatever) can be used here. there are no rules to disclose who they are paid by, only morally and morals dont earn you money.

Only 16 EU teams making it to Major is crazy. Are we really having teams like NRG, Bluejays, Fluxo, The Huns, FlyQuest and Rare Atom over Liquid, B8, Parivison, OG, Iberian Soul, fnatic, SAW and ENCE?

There is no way to convince any sane person that teams like NRG, Bluejays or Fluxo are as competitive as Liquid, B8 or OG. In Austin, OG and B8 went 3-0 and 3-1 respectively , while all of the above Americas teams bombed out of Stage 1 and now they will be getting another invite instead of those EU teams? This is ridiculous!
