Sources: Astralis set sights on Magisk return

The 27-year-old could be on his way back to the team with which he won three of his four Majors.

Astralis are weighing up the possibility of signing Falcons benched player Emil "⁠Magisk⁠" Reif, sources with knowledge of the matter told HLTV and Croissant Strike. If the move goes through, it will mark the player's return to Astralis after a prolific stint between February 2018 and December 2021.

Sources said nothing has been signed just yet, though negotiations are expected to go smoothly once Magisk is released from his Falcons contract, which should happen in the coming days. Magisk was moved to Falcons' bench in June to make way for the arrival of 17-year-old phenom Maxim "⁠kyousuke⁠" Lukin.

At this stage, everything points towards Martin "⁠stavn⁠" Lund being the player on the chopping block should Magisk return to the team. stavn has been on Astralis' books since November 2023, when he was signed from HEROIC along with Jakob "⁠jabbi⁠" Nygaard.

Astralis began the new season with a runner-up finish at FISSURE Playground 1, but results since then have been mixed. Earlier this month, they were eliminated from the BLAST Bounty Finals in the quarter-finals by MOUZ and from the Esports World Cup in the Round of 16 by TYLOO.

HooXi: "I think all roles fit the players better than before, but the transition will take some time"

Astralis will return to action at FISSURE Playground 2, which will kick off on September 12.

Fissure Playground was a good performance too, I think stavn is more cursed than jabbi, he's playing better positions than jabbi and putting up worse numbers. If they should change any player it should be stavn alone.

BlameF way of IGL was the same as he plays, very passive, lot of antistrating and selling his team. If device didn't like his way of igl (playing), Astralis won't even consider him as long as he's there, because blamef won't change his playstyle. The f you on about? Even if Astralis did take blameF back he'd never IGL again. Nor does he even want to IGL. That was my whole point. And if the strat says "BlameF goes there", then that's where blameF will go, as he's not the IGL, and Device had no problem playing with BlameF before he became the IGL. And to be totally clear here: I never said Astralis should or shouldn't take BlameF. I'm simply talking about Blamef's relationship with Device

I'm going to try again, because you're bringing their "relationship" when I'm speaking about the game since the original post. Blamef won't become donk fighting every duel without cover because an igl says so. And it wouldn't be on his favor. He has his playstyle and tendencies. Passive player that will always play not trying to die (many time overthinking a trade or activating a lurk). So if his way of igl cs is the same as the way he plays it, Device won't want to play/feel comfortable with a guy he doesn't see the game on same light after their first try. And that happens every day. There are players who get together, even wanting to play with each other to then realise they aren't compatible (elige - Karrigan most recently). P.S. you don't have to hate the guy to dislike his playstyle. It's like having a friend who you'll never work with in a project.

He's their most consistent player. Device is washed. Stavn and Jabbi have been ghosting in playoff series since 2022. Hooxi is only on the team for calls. Meanwhile, Staehr just does his job. Very steady performance, steps up when needed, and is a key supportive element that compliments their stars. I don't think it's a stretch to say he can be their most valuable player at times.

The difference between Stavn and Magisk, is really the ability to get on the stage and play like you normally do. Stavn has been the worst at this, and have really been the bane of both Ast and Herioc, when he's performance falls off a cliff in crucial situations. I see him as a bit of a crybaby. Magisk is an upgrade over Stavn for sure, but is it enough is the question.
