G2 move past FaZe to reach semi-finals in London

huNter-'s troops are one win away from reaching their first final since Bucharest.

G2 are through to the semi-finals of BLAST Open London with a 2-0 victory against FaZe after a blowout win on their map pick (13-5) and a close double-overtime Dust2 affair (19-15).

It was a strong all-round team performance from G2 decorated by an imperious display from Nikita "HeavyGod" Martynenko, who had several key rounds throughout the series, including a sensational 1v3 clutch on Dust2 that swung the momentum back in his team's favor just when all hope seemed lost.

The victory puts G2 on a collision course with FURIA in the semi-finals, giving Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač's troops a chance for revenge after being knocked out by the Brazilian side at IEM Cologne in July.

"We have definitely improved compared to Cologne, but they have improved as well," huNter- said. "They are playing amazing CS, and it will be a really hard game. I really respect them a lot and I know they respect us. I'm looking forward to that game."

Without surprise, G2 went for a punish pick of Inferno, a map where FaZe had struggled during the online stages against ECSTATIC and Vitality. Those same issues reared their ugly head again today in a one-sided Inferno game in which they played from behind from the opening duels.

The first half ended with FaZe posting only four rounds on the CT side. Despite winning the majority of the opening duels (8-4), they never really found their footing on the defense and struggled to string rounds together, with David "frozen" Čerňanský the only player who looked like he was up for the challenge.

More misery was to come for FaZe, who found themselves against map point just three rounds into the second half. It was only then that they managed to get a round on the T side, but it merely delayed the inevitable as G2 won the ensuing round with double kills from huNter- and HeavyGod on the B site entrance.

A quad-kill from Jakub "jcobbb" Pietruszewski in the pistol round, followed by a 1v3 clutch from Helvijs "broky" Saukants, propelled FaZe into an early lead on Dust2 before G2 began to hit back once they had money to work with. huNter-'s troops enjoyed a period of dominance with a five-round streak, but FaZe fought back in the dying stages of the half, which ended in a 6-6 stalemate.

FaZe carried that late momentum into the second half, with their lead ballooning to four rounds. It looked like the game was running away from G2, but then HeavyGod rescued his team with a miraculous 1v3 clutch. That round instantly breathed new life into G2, who would be unable to wrap it up in regulation as FaZe won the final two rounds to force overtime.

The first overtime could not determine a winner as G2 fought back from two map points down after Finn "karrigan" Andersen's crisp 1v2 clutch. But in the second set of extra rounds G2 put up a flawless defense before putting the seal on victory on the T side.

Hello, it's me, LatvianLoser. broky was subpar this series. HeavyGod's secondary AWP had more impact than broky's. He's not even looking the right way in this picture. Ridiculous.

G2 have potential if Malbs and Sunpayus can find their way again. Faze have potential if uh... I can't even. This lineup has been festering and rotting for way too long and people cope so hard to pretend it's not so.

That EliGE and s1mple roster could’ve genuinely been a contender with enough time. While EliGE didn't 100% work within the faze system, s1 gave him a lot of structure and accompanying plays (especially on CT Anubis with EliGE’s A pushes) and I think that helped bridge the gap between the faze style and EliGE rip

One real trophy, fall finals is not a trophy you dummy. And even that one was despite them, not because of them. I can see you are butthurt but you have to realize how fucking stupid it makes you look defending Taz and Snax. The flag is the only reason you have for that, neither of those clowns have had a place in tier1 cs in YEARS. Everyone sees this except for polski kurwa, that's why they have become a meme. Just watch what a real coach can do with G2 now, something that your parasocial friends couldnt fucking do with monesy and niko. Also nice to see aleksibob has a rentfree apartment even in your head, seems to be pretty common with people who dont understanding anything about cs. Wait till you hear where G2 coach is from.

Yeah, compared to polska 0 good igl and 0 good coaches now we sure are bad. Of course I keep writing, your delusional malding is way too funny. If you think snax&taz will be "back" you need more than grass, how can they come back from being constantly shit? They weren't "there" at all so logically they can't come "back". Did you hear already, they just got hired to a tier3 shit team to farm VRS points? I think that tells more than enough.
