Media: Astralis acquisition finalized

The Danish giants are being taken over by a new entity, with a familiar face at the helm of the organization.

Danish esports organization Astralis switched hands on September 5, according to independent reporter Richard Lewis, who revealed that Fusion Esports Group has taken over the company.

Little is known about Fusion Esports Group other than that it was officially registered on that same day and that its director is Jakob Lund Kristensen, the founder and CEO of Copenhagen Wolves between 2012 and 2016, and a co-founder of both Astralis and BLAST.

The Danish business registry shows that Fusion Esports Group is part of JLK HOLDING ApS, which, according to Richard Lewis, is a company that "that had been defunct for some time."

Between December 2016 and August 2019, Kristensen worked for BLAST as Executive Vice President of Sales. He then returned to Astralis after RFRSH Entertainment moved on from its competitive division, serving as Chief Revenue Officer until January 2023, according to his LinkedIn page.

The news ends months of speculation about Astralis' future. In April, HLTV and Dust2.dk reported that Astralis were actively looking for a buyer for the company's brand, IP rights, and CS division, with Jonas "calc" Gundersen, the former COO of Ninjas in Pyjamas, one of the interested parties.

Sources have told HLTV that the deal is expected to be announced in the coming days. Only last week, Astralis confirmed the return of former team member Emil "Magisk" Reif to replace Martin "stavn" Lund, who is taking a break from action due to personal reasons.

I live in Germany - Students at Berlin and Hamburg universities got the shit kicked out of them for showing solidarity with Palestinians and calling for an end to German financial and military endorsement of genocide! Yes - falcons are investing in esports and Saudi Arabia want to be more involved in global sports and esports.

Germany is the biggest weapons provider to Israel in EU. The country who is committing a genocide right now. Your country is cracking down on students and protesters and limiting peoples free speech. You have no moral high ground when you are actively funding genocide, so stop preaching.

well ... you can pretend like you have a good moral compass and say it's not OK and say all the ranbows and unicorns you want on your social media channels, but you still do it. The difference between this and Saudi Arabia and Falcons is they dont pretend to give a fuck. They just do... and they let the masses argue about it in caps lock over the internet.

Here's the difference:Saudijsut cuts to the checkand doesn't pretend to be a beacon of unicorns and rainbows and pink, it cuts right the chase, hands the check, and does business. But we here at BLAST and EU we pretend to be masterminds of goodness and jesus christ and all that is holy

I mean I cheer for the Org kinda. I mean I don’t like the org and I don’t give a shit about them, I don’t care about them in any other game, but through every roster change I still care, even when it’s a brand new 5 after the 5 I was cheering for before. At that point am I still cheering for just the team or am I cheering for the org? I don’t even know tbh

thats what makes me kinda averse to really becoming involved in esports. lineups come and go, sometimes all at once, orgs get founded and go defunct. everything is so shifty and non permanent unless you are a fan of one of the big 5. my football club is 132 years oldm and even if they switch the entire lineup, the stadium is still in my home town. this is not a thing in esports.

Nah this has been a long time coming, haven’t been to a major in 3 years and they’ve spent shit loads on transfers. I called it almost a year ago that Astralis would miss the major, run out of money and disband. I was laughed at but it basically happened, only instead of disbanding they just got bought out. Personally tho I saw this coming a mile away, you just can’t keep spending money like that while constantly missing the tournament that breathes life into orgs.

talent in Denmark is no longer there, in particular thanks to astralis. so they will use those who are in circles, because the transition to the international level is impossible, astralis is again financed by the government, they will be against it.

Astralis aren’t funded by the government, nor does the government have any ownership or control of the company, so they can’t stop them from going international. The government does have a 20% stake in BLAST, but that doesn’t really mean much since they aren’t the controlling party.

I disagree, I think the talent is definitely there. Not to be a top 2 team alongside spirit and Vitality, but to be a top 3-5 team the talent is 100% there. That being said I’d love to see them go international, although I really want them to give this Hooxi roster a fair chance first, especially now with Magisk, and after making back 2 back LAN grand finals, after not making one in like 5 years, you just gotta give them some time, surely.

Pretty epic, was honestly expecting the org to pull out entirely, so it’s nice to see that I don’t have to try and find a new team to be passionate about yet, although I’m a bit sceptical about who’s buying it, does anyone know anything about him? Anyone tied to both Astralis and Blast is automatically gonna seem sketchy but I don’t recognise his name.

"a bit skeptical" it's amazing how much scrutiny we put on Arabs and Muslims, and "others" who don't look like us. But when we see corruption and scummy deals from Finland CEOs with Yalla and one of the most legendary orgs in CS, we are... a wee bit skeptical.. LOL
