Media: GODSENT enter bankruptcy

2024's financial troubles have reportedly led to the closure of one of Sweden's most iconic organizations.

GODSENT has been declared bankrupt by the Malmö District Court, according to a report by Fragbite.se.

The Swedish publication goes on to report that GODSENT were "repeatedly approached" by the Swedish Enforcement Authority to settle its debts, a task it was unable to fulfil.

A team did play at the Svenska Elitserien Spring 2025 Finals under their banner, but GODSENT's financial problems were laid bare more than a year before that point when they released their main roster after the loss of a crucial sponsor.

An academy promotion from Young Gods led to a roster around Liam "⁠MaiL09⁠" Tügel, but that too was let go in December 2024.

GODSENT was founded in 2016 by Markus "⁠pronax⁠" Wallsten and later made an audacious (if short-term) swoop for Jesper "⁠JW⁠" Wecksell, Robin "⁠flusha⁠" Rönnquist, and Freddy "⁠KRIMZ⁠" Johansson.

The team remained under the RFRSH umbrella — the organization that also controlled Astralis and HEROIC at the time — until ceasing operations in 2018, before a merge with The Final Tribe got them going again at the start of 2019 with an international European roster.

00NATION confirm GODSENT trio signing

Post-pandemic, the team hosted the likes of Eduardo "⁠dumau⁠" Wolkmer and Bruno "⁠latto⁠" Rebelatto in a Brazilian roster in time for the Stockholm Major in 2021, before they sold their core and staff to 00NATION in 2022.

That heralded a return to Sweden in January 2023, but the organization were hit with controversy when Joel "⁠joel⁠" Holmlund was suspended by ESIC over matchfixing allegations in September.

While they did cycle through talent including MaiL09, Erik "⁠ztr⁠" Gustafsson, and Jonatan "⁠bobeksde⁠" Persson, GODSENT never again cracked the top 30.

HLTV has contacted GODSENT representatives for comment, but did not hear back before the time of publication.

The brand will likely go up for auction and will not have any debt attached to it, that's at least how it works here.

GODSENT could have sold themselves or their brand (including any debt if desired) at any point. However, when a company enters bankruptcy, any assets (including things like the brand name) will often be sold to help repay creditors.

Why anyone should? Lending is a risky business. The point of bankruptcy is to minimise losses to creditors (or ideally avoid them altogether by for example restructuring). Selling the brand and other assets will cover some of that.

They should've stuck with BR roster imo. There's plenty pf talent and tournaments going in SA. Maybe they'll able to live till current times and prosper, since there's plenty of small tournaments rising with VRS addition.
