The MongolZ claim No. 1 in HLTV ranking for first time in history

The Austin Major runners-up have surpassed Vitality for the top spot after a strong start to the Fall season.

The MongolZ have risen to number one in the HLTV World Rankings for the first time in history.

The Mongolian team has been a staple in the top 10 for all of 2025 and entered the top five after semi-final finishes at IEM Melbourne and IEM Dallas and a 5-8th place at PGL Astana earlier in the year.

Their rise continued into the top three after an impressive run to the final of the BLAST.tv Austin Major, and a stellar start to the Fall season saw them add their first Big Event trophy at Esports World Cup, a 5-6th result at IEM Cologne, and two more runners-up finishes at BLAST Bounty Season 2 Finals and FISSURE Playground 2.

Those results were enough for the team to reach No. 1 in the live VRS ranking on September 15, and they have now overtaken Vitality for the top spot on HLTV's ranking for the very first time.

Dan "⁠apEX⁠" Madesclaire's men were indomitable in the first half of the year, winning seven consecutive titles and drumming up a near-impossible 37 series winstreak. That came to an end in what has been a more labored Fall season for Vitality, who have finished top-four or better since the break but have yet to add another trophy to their cabinet.

The MongolZ gained just two points between the September 22 and September 29 ranking, but claimed the top spot after Vitality lost 30 points in the form subranking to go from 910 points to 880. That is a result of their best-of-three win over The MongolZ and loss to MOUZ at IEM Cologne falling out of the form ranking, causing recent results to bear more weight.
