tabseN's six-year tenure as in-game leader has come to an end as BIG undergo another overhaul.

tabseN gives up in-game leadership to FreeZe

BIG have announced a sweeping set of changes to their Counter-Strike 2 roster in addition to the previously unveiled benching of Marcel "⁠hyped⁠" Köhn in favor of Gleb "⁠gr1ks⁠" Gazin.

BIG sign gr1ks; bench hyped

The German organization has promoted Lukas "⁠FreeZe⁠" Hegmann from BIG Academy to take over in-game leadership after having previously made him assistant coach to Sebastian "⁠xenn⁠" Hoch, bringing an end to Johannes "⁠tabseN⁠" Wodarz's six-year tenure as the captain.

But it's Karim "⁠Krimbo⁠" Moussa who makes the space for the new IGL, stepping down from the lineup following a mutual decision.

In explaining the moves, BIG's Chief Gaming Officer, Roman "⁠Roman R.⁠" Reinhardt, said the organization looks to FreeZe to bring "a new structure and a fresh perspective to our in-game leadership, while tabseN's role change ensures his influence remains central to how we play with all his experience and dedication for BIG."

"Karim and we reached a joint decision to pause his participation in the active lineup," he said in regards to Krimbo's move off the lineup. "I am sure that whatever his next step may be, he will continue to perform successfully at the highest level and appreciate his dedication and the standard he has set."

BIG's roster overhaul comes in the aftermath of a year 2025 full of disappointing results and countless roster changes, which saw the team drop out of the tier-one invite cycle in the middle of the year and never recover.

Their last-ditch attempt at making up ground lost on the Valve Regional Standings at three consecutive open LANs late last month helped mitigate damage somewhat, but wasn't enough to bring the team back into the top 30 after their best result was a third-place finish at Urban Riga Open.

I think an IGL doesnt have to perform. 0.9-1.0 is enough. Just make some good calls and that will help BIG alot already. Also you could see in all games that if the mood and communication was on point everyone was hitting. It was most of the time communication issues AND hyped not hitting a Barn door. I wouldn't be surprised if JDC also leaves if they find a decent, inexpensive replacement. Tabsen will definitely take on the star roles, as he is still the best aimer on the team (yes, he still is). That means there is no more room for JDC in that position. So either the deal is that he takes on a new role, or he gets replaced. I can't imagine prosus leaving. But here, too, I wonder how that would work with gob. The two don't get along at all anymore. So either tabsen will also leave in the future and this is just an intermediate step (VRS) to an even bigger overhaul, or gob and he will come to an agreement. I have no idea myself, to be honest.

I see more changes coming. There will be an international IGL joining for freeze. If they change to english, they might aswell pick up another talent. FreeZe will never bring them back to tier1. They can sell Krimbo to get the needed liquidity. The chemistry was totally off this year and all the drama around syrsoN and that mega fail of a documentation just showed that without krimbo maybe that squad could have had a future. As much potential he has, that just wasnt going to work. tabseN might even deliver hard beeing back in a star rifler position. The missinig piece to me is that IGL. I dont see a future with FreeZe but he might prove me wrong.

Pretty sure they brought him in on short notice since their last 3 LANs haven't been big successes so they wanted to change stuff fast. FreeZe's future on the roster probably depends on the teams performance till the major. Actually quite stoked about the changes, we'll see how it plays out.

Maybe s1n, JDC, Prosus, faven, syrson? Slaxz maybe I do think Tabsen can still perform as a rifler but not sure if he can manage another IGL.

This org makes no sense at all. They bench and hire the same 7 people all the time, let UNC tabsen throw games since 6 years and bench krimbo ( the player big wantet to build around)

i mean you're not wrong historically but how is adding gr1ks and freeze recycling players again? this is the first time in quite a while they are willing to take a risk again. krimbo was apparently difficult to work with. i wish him the best (maybe he can end up in M80 or something), he's a great player but i think he burned too many bridges in BIG (on top of the whole syrson drama there were rumors at the start of the year of the BIG management being unsatisfied with Krimbo as well)

additionally, announcing that theyre going to international and switching to english ... and then only bringing in 1 non german player. interesting move to switch languages to sign just 1 player. especially when that player seemingly now has a reputation of being hard to work with.

Don't really know that much about gr1ks (especially toxicity wise), but I think an aggressive AWPer that tries to go for plays is smth BIG could really need. Imo one of their biggest problems was that they have no one who wants to be the one that goes for playes. Not sure how it'll work out but hopefully we got a playmaker.

Huge L for BIG. Can only assume that a tier 1/1.5 team has signed Krimbo. He was always too good for that roster.

I think this is part of a larger transition. After Syrson left, the AWP was simply missing, and to be honest, after GOB left, so was the IGL. Hyped didn't make any impact as an AWP, so the change was understandable, and Gr1ks is probably the better option. JDC has a lot of experience, as does Tabsen. JDC and Tabsen can still shoot, which is why they'll stay there for now. They can also call midgame. The new IGL is probably just a fill-in so they don't have too many changes at once. It's purely about not losing the rating. There will definitely be a new IGL. Krimbo was the only alternative who could bring in money. Besides, there's no way of knowing if he wanted to leave. Prosus is also far too inconsistent. My feeling is that after Krimbo's departure, if he brings in money, a new IGL will come relatively soon.
