IEM Chengdu 2025Spirit scrape past HEROIC; The MongolZ come back from 0-7 to eliminate paiN
HEROIC gave Spirit a fright by taking map one and forcing overtime on map two.
Spirit survived a scare against HEROIC to keep their IEM Chengdu hopes alive, dropping map one and only taking map two in overtime.
They were more convincing on the decider, leading 7-0 at one point, but it was far from a confidence boost ahead of a best-of-three against The MongolZ at 10:30 for a spot in playoffs.
The result ends the tournament and season for HEROIC, who were on the hunt for VRS points after missing the Major but only managed one win over Natus Vincere after losses to The MongolZ and now Spirit.
For Spirit, questions remain over the new constellation with both Andrey "tN1R" Tatarinovich and Ivan "zweih" Gogin showing streaky form in China.

tN1R had a good debut at Pro League with a 1.11 rating but is on 0.85 so far in Chengdu, an alarming collapse for a player who was signed from HEROIC to add consistent firepower to the team.
Instead, it needed to be the Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov and Danil "donk" Kryshkovets show, aside from one flash of tN1R's obvious talent in a 2v4 win on Ancient and zweih's with a FAMAS triple at 12-6.

The MongolZ and paiN go the distance
Back-stage on the B stream, The MongolZ and paiN also went to three maps with The MongolZ taking a hard-fought victory.
On the Inferno decider, paiN erected a brick wall on defence and stormed to a 7-0 lead, before The MongolZ worked their way back to overtime.

It was a miraculous comeback, where The MongolZ managed to lose a 4v2 and two full anti-eco rounds and still win the second half 8-4 to tie it up 12-12.
In overtime, The MongolZ's gun round supremacy — and more good form from Unudelger "controlez" Baasanjargal, who started 2-10 but ended top of the board — was borne out as they marched on to face Spirit in the lower bracket decider.
"He's playing really good," Sodbayar "Techno" Munkhbold said post-game. "It's his first arena event, he could be a little bit shakey or struggling, but he managed."
