Techno: "Maybe people doubted about our new player and what would happen after Senzu, but we bounced back"

The Mongolian rifler spoke about the team's new addition and was coy when asked for an update on Senzu.

Techno praised controlez, a "really funny guy"

The MongolZ booked a spot in the quarter-finals of IEM Chengdu after surviving three-map elimination series against paiN and Spirit.

It has been a rough couple of weeks for The MongolZ, who have had to make do without Azbayar "Senzu" Munkhbold, who was shockingly moved to the bench just a month before the start of the Budapest Major.

Community reacts: The MongolZ bench Senzu

Stand-in Unudelger "controlez" Baasanjargal acquitted himself well in the group stage as he averaged a 1.09 rating, the second-highest on the team, with Sodbayar "Techno" Munkhbold praising both the veteran's light-hearted demeanor and impact on the server.

"He's a really funny guy," Techno said after the match against Spirit. "He played in Chinggis Warriors and the old MongolZ teams, so obviously he is a very experienced player in this roster. He can adapt to us."

Next up is a quarter-final bout with FURIA, a team The MongolZ failed to beat in their last three matches.

"We're going to play good. Good style, and good shape because, as I said before, a lot of the time, we bounce back."

Congratulations, a big win over Spirit in your debut event with controlez. Did you expect this kind of result coming here?

Of course, we were confident in [ourselves] because all the core four players and our coach came back on the server. It's really nice to play on the stage again, and in the playoffs as well. Maybe people doubted about our new player and what would happen after Senzu was benched, but somehow we managed to bounce back and we're going to play playoffs again.

You say 'somehow,' but you also said maybe other people doubted you. Did you ever doubt yourself?

Of course not, but we played the first two matches without our coach, and you can see here how his impact was on this team. Everyone is seeing it right now, I think. As you could see, we played very badly yesterday against Astralis. It wasn't us, but we bounced back today.

Talk to me about this game, you dominated Dust2, took their pick, then Ancient went into overtime, there was this 910 clutch too-

Yeah (laughs).

-Talk to me about that, what was going through your mind between those first two maps?

We lost so many rounds at the beginning of the T side on Ancient. I'm not sure about it, but it affected us a lot, in my opinion. After 910's clutch, it was an unbelievable round by him, a round we must win, but we lost the round after. We made a lot of mistakes on that map.

But then you recovered on this decider, you took over and didn't give them a chance. How was it to get to the playoffs in that kind of fashion?

If I remember correctly, we hadn't won any recent matches on Mirage (smiles). We always took the lead and somehow, we always lost to a comeback. So I'm really happy about winning Mirage.

How has it been playing with controlez? What has he brought to the team in such a short amount of time?

We didn't do a lot of practice, maybe three or four days, and we came here. Before that, we went to a ZOWIE event for two or three days without computers. So it was not that much time, only one week.

What has it been like playing with him?

To be honest, he's a really funny guy (smiles). He's a really funny guy, and as you can see he's kind of the oldest in our team now (laughs). He played in Chinggis Warriors and the old MongolZ teams, so obviously he is a very experienced player in this roster. He can adapt to us.

You mentioned it earlier, Senzu is not out of the team, he is benched. Can you give any insight into what is going on with him? There have been a lot of questions about what happened.

I'm not sure about Senzu's condition, it happened suddenly for me. I don't know anything, I swear, and he is a friend of mzinho and me still.

How do you feel about your upcoming playoff match after how you played in the group stage?

We're going to play good. Good style, and good shape because, as I said before, a lot of the time, we bounce back.

Maaraa has the aura of mongolian drill sergeant. Probably rode next to genghis khan in past life.

They're both fantastic coaches. MaaRaa doesn't get enough media attention because he doesn't give interviews in English. Ash would look way better had the off-season gone slightly differently for GamerLegion: He wanted to sign Molodoy but he declined.

so it sounds like it wasn't the team who wanted senzu out? either management didn't like his motivation or benched himself - wishing him the best either way...

Senzu feels like a very sensitive and vulnerable soul. I wouldnt be suprised if he ends up shooting heroin for the spiritual pain in one of those golden triangle countries.

"coy" /koi/ adjective (especially with reference to a woman) making a pretense of shyness or modesty that is intended to be alluring. "she treated him to a coy smile of invitation" Opposite: brazen reluctant to give details, especially about something regarded as sensitive. "he is coy about his age" DATED quiet and reserved; shy. Thats prolly because he, mzi and senzu played together in some no name mongolian team when they were 12 13 and 14. Basically really close friends. Senzu prolly met blitz 2 year ago when he is signed You can find the photo in mongolz twitter; i remember they posted it after they qualified for major playoffs for the first time in shanghai

it's because the other 2 are older and are probably rather seen as big brothers than friends. you wouldn't usually be "friends" with someone older in Mongolia. there is a different type of respectful relationship.

What people need to realize is that Senzu is a teenager in a small country where he just recently basically became a national hero, pressured every tournament with the hopes of his nation on his shoulders as the star player. Also the guy listens to music like xxxtentacion, he obviously just needs some time to mature and pick himself up. Also probably girl problems etc etc with being famous. Lots of things we don't know about so we just have to cut him some slack and wait for him to come back stronger

Could be true but the most tiring thing of being a pro is probably traveling 24/7 and staying away from home, thats why pro players burn out the most.

that too is undoubtedly a factor, which also takes part in their social life. these kids didn't even finish school before becoming pro, senzu probably has a lot of friends outside of cs who he can't meet anymore due to his traveling. Also family of course
