New CPL opens its doors

The organization now controlling the CPL, WoLong Ventures, opened its doors to the public with a brand new website as well as further details regarding the future of the league, following a completion of ownership transfer just last week.

A press release from NewWorld's side recently revealed that the buy-out process of both CPL and CAL brands, started in May, was now fully completed. As previously reported, the Singapore based, WoLong Ventures, lead by Ryan Schumacher, would from now on be in full control of both entities.

WoLong didn't waste any time and this week they are back with further news, launching a brand new website as well as further insights as to what fans should expect in the future from this fresh face of the CPL.

A snippet of the official announcement on the websites reads:

"We want to learn from the mistakes of the past, and temper our ambition with the trials esports has already overcome or stumbled over.

We want to provide the tools and platform needed for every step of a competitive gamer's career, from the beginner playing in casual online leagues to the amateur looking for his big break into the next level and the professionals challenging the best at the biggest events in the world."

Amongst the new faces in charge of the day to day smooth run of operations the public can now see, Ryan Schumacher, founder of WiredLabs, Hunter Luisi, former CEO of Team Sportscast Network, as well as Samuel Lingle, previous Editor-in-Chief for AmpedNews.

HLTV.org is following up on the story and will soon bring an exclusive interview with former CPL owner, Angel Munoz, complemented by a sneak peak into the organization's future perspectives, brought through an additional interview with Ryan Schumacher. Stay tuned with us for all the latest happenings.

Well, website is a total shit, speaking from my professional point of view. While design itself is very so-so, coding is just awful - just look at the "news" link in the sub-menu: in Google Chrome it looks cubic, while it should be corner-rounded. The funniest thing about that is when you roll-over the link, it is really corner-rounded :) And this is just let alone other coding objectives like W3C valid coding, SEO-optimized coding and so on. The only question I have now: IS CPL LACKING THAT MUCH MONEY?! I guess so.

It still costs money to do it. This is a new project for this investment firm and although they do have projections and calculations of when their company will become profitable until then there is no point in spending large amounts of money on everything because it could simply go down the drain. Why pay hundreds of dollars for a good website-designer/-coder/-creator/-whatever when you can have someone in your company do it that has semi-decent knowledge of how to make a website for free? The page they have up now completely fulfills it's purpose, they can post news, you can read news. It's not a website that has a lot of function and it doesn't need a lot of function, it's a website that merely presents information about the company and their tournaments. Judging the future of a company by the coding and design of their makeshift website really isn't smart and is a useless assumption that is based on no real grounds.

If they appear to not have enough money for a decent website then they definitely don't have money to hold events and payout prize money... I'm sure this is just a big scam in the long run.

It may look like it from a user standpoint but looking at it economically it is a plausible thing to do. Look at it this way. Let's say they have 50.000$. Now they could hire a really great team of website designers and coders to do one of the best websites the gaming community has ever seen. And let's say that would run them 2.000$. That is 2.000$ less that they can use in a tournament for prize money. This is absolutely not a scam, in the situation and with the reputation the CPL was left with it is impossible to use what's left of this once great company to perform a scam. The reputation and the portfolio of the CPL has practically to be rebuilt by the new organizers and show-runners of the CPL, then and only then is it possible to gain the trust of players, teams and sponsors and the investment firm will do a great deal of work on accomplishing that, otherwise buying the CPL was a huge waste of money and although it probably wasn't one of their more grand buyouts no one likes losing money, ever, and no one invests in something that they know will not benefit them, e.g. become profitable. This is what you always need to think about, CPL is nothing other than a company seeking for profit, it is the goal of the company. No one bought or started the CPL because they like watching Counter Strike tournaments, the sole intent of the CPL, or any company really, is to be a profitable and to make the people that run and own it richer. Now this has gotten out of hand with the old CPL and this is why it died with a rotten reputation. It's why the new owners fight an uphill battle and this alone should give you the confidence to believe in the new CPL. I could probably write a pages-long blog about this but who is really listening, what's the point.

its a new start-up managing the cpl; new start-up are synonymous with bootstrapping which means spend less (it also means they don't necessarily have an endless sack of goodies at their disposal) - that's the only explanation I can find. I'm certain they'll fix it in time..

#90 Frag was the scam. They never once gave me an opportunity to answer any of their wild accusations or even told me that what they were doing. A "documentary" is supposed to offer all views. BTW they are nine (9) documentaries about CPL, and the FRAG was the only negative one. As far as the prizes I already answered that publicly: formspring.me/AngelMunoz/q/966715324

You have GOT to be kidding me. What is this, first grade logic? "No, you're the scam!". Given that 90% of so-called 'documentaries' and 'e-sports journalists' are glad handing groupies, of course most of the press is going to be positive. It's a number of biased people with a mission. The only reason you've escaped scrutiny is that nobody cares about you enough to actually notice how little you've actually personally contributed to the CAL/CPL entity over the years...unless you consider figuring out how to exploit others and take credit for their work, ideas, and results, in which case you're probably a savant. And this isn't gotfrag, learn t use 'reply'. There's a threading system for a reason. Finally, if anyone doesn't think Scott Valencia is still running this show...well, you're deluded. I'm sure he'll make another post somewhere expressing his surprise, though.
