WCG donates 360 monitors to schools

The World Cyber Games organisation has revealed that it will donate $122,000 worth of computer equipment to public schools in the state of California.

The move will see a total of 360 Samsung SyncMaster computer monitors being given to the Los Angeles County Education Foundation, with hopes of enchancing classroom and after-school programs.

"Games and technology are a great way to engage at-risk kids," said Madeline Hall, director of the Los Angeles County Education Foundation. "Having access to the best tools in our classrooms and after school programs will help disadvantaged students experience the opportunities available for them in the broader world, and give them something to strive for in their education."

WCG strives to improve education

The 2010 edition of the WCG, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary, will feature 450 players from 58 different countries, with $167,000 being handed out in the various competitions.

Dipshit brazilians? FUCK you. The north-american people pay a hell of taxes so the government can pay the fucking senior members of rich corporations when their business are in "crysis". You fucking prick thinks we live in an isolated world? Funny thing is that Brazil was one of the less affected by this stupid recession, something that I can't say about Australia. So yeah, if you wanna be the smart one here, I could simple say "Haha DIPSHIT AUSSIE, we don't need to know about the recession since it didn't really affected us."

That's true. Primary and secondary sectors are losing labors so unemployment is fucking high, so the socio-economic inequality. US can inject billions to pay senior positions of the rich corporations when they are in crysis, but they can't help education. Capitalism sucks that's all I can say. Do you have a lot of poverty in EU aswell? Btw by saying that I'm not defending Socialism.

There is poor poeple everywhere, after danish standards we also have our amount of poor people here, but they would still be rich in other countries. I think that the eastern european countries such as, romania, ukraine etc. have alot more poor people than what the standard in europe is, but it is not something i know alot about.

Well it doesnt matter if it is 120 hz or 60 hz, the case is they donatted them, the kids who didnt have a monitor for a computer now opt to have one. The retarded one is you, you should apreciate more what you have, i would laugh at you if one day you need the help of others and you dont receive it. Also you aint playing the tournament, so prizepot doesnt affect you.

That's what we called BUSINESS. Why would they give it to Brazil or other south countries. If you put it there, people are not going to buy it because it's too expansive. But in America, they can have payback. "Oh this monitor is nice, want the same at home." That's all

then they can be sent to schoos. The users often have restricted opportunities to change the herz settings, and they're often set to default.. This is useless for schools. They should rather sell the monitors and give the money away to charity.

I really don't know whether to term this good or bad. I am all for donating monitors but giving away gaming grade monitors worth so much to schools which don't really need that level of hardware is something I am not able to digest... I would rather buy a larger number of lower spec monitors and help as many schools as possible (with the same amount of money) rather than give away 120 Hz gaming monitors just to showcase sponsors' prowess.

stupid They'd better pay what they promised instead of trying to look generous California is not really the place in the world that needs it the most, they'd rather sell the screens and give the money to an association dealing with third tier countries' problems..

"Games and technology are a great way to engage at-risk kids," - If I remember correctly USA wanted to ban violet games because they have ability to lead youngs to a bad way, like to school shooting or something similar.

I don't get it?! They drop the prices to the event, and then they give all the money/hardware away. In my mind that like shoting yourself in the foot. :S

no harm to americans but sounds weird for me to read that USA is recieving donations though I know they're in crysis and it will definetly help sb but feels like its no that much of a benefit for them.
