Official: EPS France removes CS

The Electronic Sports League has announced that Counter-Strike will not longer feature in the French EPS league.

The confirmation was made by ESL France chief Jean-Christophe "Lobo" Arnaud, who justified the decision with the game's age.

"CS has had its time and other games have arrived, games with more important communities, more motivated and with different ambitions," he told team-aaa.com.

Reports in France at the weekend indicated the ESL was considering removing CS from the list for the upcoming campaign, while keeping Counter-Strike: Source and Starcraft 2 as official titles.

Arnaud lamented removing Counter-Strike, which had been the ESL France's main title for seven years, but he has cast doubt over the game's competitive future.

"Honestly, I do not think CS can return to EPS France, I even think it is seeing its last years at an eSports level.

"It may be present in IEM for 2012, we do not know yet if it will continue after this season.

"After that, the German 1.6 scene may be sufficiently well structured to allow it to have some more seasons, but its [Counter-Strike's] removal seems inevitable in the short/medium run."

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 has been added as an official title for the new season, but Arnaud stressed this decision is indifferent to the removal of Counter-Strike.

"Naruto is a 1on1 game, not a team game, it has nothing to do with CS and the matches are fast (5 minutes per match, like Street Fighter, while for CS, it takes 12 hours during an event," he said.

Arnaut noted that, despite this move, the ESL France will continue hosting CS tournaments with prize money and qualifiers for the Intel Extreme Masters.

Well OK. You can use many arguments on both sides. My question is different. Wouldn't You like to play new product which will be better overall which would blow You away ? There is many examples of amazing games productions these days. There are big names out there which could make an amazing CS 2.0. That's what I am saying. Wouldn't You like that ? Can't You admitt that it would be freakin' awesome ?

I, like many people, enjoy the simplicity of CS, whilst the graphics may be basic it is still a highly complex game with many nuances and the engine allows for a lot of freedom in movement. I personally wouldn't play a CS 2.0 if it was anywhere near cod/bad company in terms of complexity and graphics, it just isnt right for a competitive game. So for me, no it wouldnt be 'freaking awesome'.

Why are You talking about graphics ? I said a better CS in every way, especially the ENGINE. A super counter strike. You are always talking about graphics, compare to COD . Why can You think bigger ? It is 100 % to make a better game. That is what I am saying. I enjoy cs 1.6 but I would be thrilled to play sth better, or muuuuuch better.

There's Always "new" events for everygame. We (the CSS Community) have 4-5 lans in the next 3-5months that all have 10k euro prizes. June is the turning point. when the IEM titles for next season are announced, with already rumoured that CSS will be included. Also EPS Nordic/Germany looking to discontinue their support for the game (1.6). <all the above is just rumours please don't take this out of context>

Here's a few steps I want you to take: 1. Look who I replied to. 2. Read what I quoted. 3. Read the quote again. 4. Now read it again. 5. Now translate it with google translator 6. Now read the quote in polish 7. Click the youtube link. 8. Pause the video 9. Read the quote again 10. Play the video and listen to the laughter.

So You put 10 BS points around sth which isnt even written correctly Good try friend. But I dont understand Your poor swedish english :-) I guess it also maybe has sth to do with Your low intelligence ?

I didn't write the sentence you dumb fuck. Like I said, it's a quote. From a source faggot that is saying css is gonna take over 1.6. Which is not. So I quoted what he said, and then linked a video of a baby laughing. Someone says source is taking over -> Laughter. Is it that hard to understand? Apparently for you it is. And stop writing you with a capital letter you retarded cunt fuck.

Maybe because many players don't want to play a game with awfuls graphics ? Maybe because many esports sponsors have gears that allow to play games who request more than cs 1.6 ? Because promod can maybe create new challenges, news maps, new rules or whatever...? Because that could unite cs:s and 1.6 communities ? Maybe because big teams, tournaments with huge cash will go on promod ? Because ...Because ...Because ... Because 1.6 is dying, it's not a pleasure to say it, but that's true.

Yep :) Having the top 3-4 teams from the UK instead of the bottom 3-4 from .be/nl would make the league much more competative

Well the only thing that needs to be done is upgrade the graphics in cs 1.6. Dont remodel the maps, weapons or playermodels. Just upgrade everything to HD quality and make it possible to stream it live with the same quality as if played by yourself.

It is truth that many say that the CS is at the present time dying or that in the future distant it is going to disappear. I do not create this. Nowadays there are many new and renewed equipment, equipment that comes to the light every day. Many people everywhere of follow it to the world constantly and is something that from its beginning intrigued and catched many people. France thinks that the CS is going to die, perfect, but for me taste has for short while.

agree with the above... combine EPS in different countries for a more active league. EPS Benelux is an example, so there surely can be EPS UK/France/Spain/Portugal (Pings are playable as long as the server location is in the middle!)

that's hasn't much to do with the level, that's the only reason why we should worry. ESL is an enterprise, all they care of is making money (I won't blame them for that) and since france is a big country (at least in Europe) it has a lot players & followers, that's why it still had an EPS leagues when Sweden never had one

Awesome drop CS for a Naruto based game. I am sure all those Asian-French guys will be extacting... all 5 of them. Why promote a game like the Naruto one that probably has a week fanbase in a Western country since it panders to a more easter audience.

And i belive that maybe cspromod or any other cs version will be good as 1.6 to replace it :)

It's a stupid argument that CS:S would take the place from 1.6 in the future. CS:S is becoming as out-dated as 1.6 in pretty much every part. A 7-year-old game can't compete with newer games in terms of graphics etc. what seems to be the reason why 1.6 is dying. The CS:Promod thing, which could have been succesful 5 years ago, should be forgotten simply because the same obvious reasons. What CS needs is a completely new game which integrates the two communities we have right now.

Jean-Christophe "Lobo" Arnaud is a noob :D ESL is shitty , the only thing that ESL offers that I like are they match streams , everything else is crap.

While our community and every one ofe ach stands here (we are thousands) the game will last more than it's expected. I remember when CPL quited many people said cs was near to death, so why are you concerned about a shitty league?

The developers don't care about gameplay anymore. They're stuck minding about graphics... Nowadays every game is mastered and gets boring after a few hours playing it. CS took around 4/5 years to be definitely mastered even by the professionals. CS may be getting old and boring, but as competitive concerns, i think that still today it's one of the most exciting games to watch/play.

Lobo's got no freaking idea what he's talking about. He's stupid to say atleast. I don't need to elaborate on this, tho I could, but just saying the sentance "CS is dying as a game", and on the other hand keeping Source as their official titles explains it all. peace out

css nothing. If esl want new games css will die within a year, seriously it looks like shit compared with other more recent games (and compared to older too imo, just look at that round awp... looks like a toy) and since it also runs like shit don't believe it will survive as much as cs did

no big deal, it's only one competition guys, only one LAN in the season and not even the one with the biggest prize money. ESL can go fuck themselves now they won't gain money from such games as naruto, ppl will probably play it more than cs nowadays but nobody's interested in attending a competition for that crap

2013 will probably be the end of CS 1.6. Promod was my only hope, but valve won't give support to the game. I think with better graphics it may attract more people.
