ESWC 2011 with CS and CS:S

The Electronic Sports World Cup has announced the first game titles for the 2011 event, seeing Counter-Strike for males and females, as well as the addition of Counter-Strike: Source.

The ESWC organizing committee today announced that the 2011 event will, just like previous years, feature Counter-Strike for males and females. In addition to the traditional Counter-Strike version, ESWC announced they this year decided to open the doors for Counter-Strike: Source (males only).

"Since Source has an increasingly active community, Games-Solution aims to satisfy the expectations of both players and spectators and maintain its level of excellence in the world of competitive gaming." - Reads the ESWC website.

It is stated that more games will be announced, both on PC and console, single-player as well as team-based games. The 2011 event was in late 2010 announced to take place in late 2011, once again in France, the location and dates are yet to be announced.

ESWC 2011 is set to hand out a total of $220,000 in prizes, divided in how many games is yet to be revealed.

nope the Brazilian team made a deal with some other organisation so they would get their support aswell if they played CS:S with the IGL of their team i believe. hltv.org/news/6131-complexity-partner-wi..

might be right but i ment was that they are the only pro team in the world playing both games so they would be the only team with a shot at both titles, though it probably wouldn't work with the schedule.

not true Verygames consists of former French 1.6 mid-skills so give a team like Fnatic maybe 2 month to get used to it and you will see them easily beat them, at least that's my opinion. xLo a danish mid-skill player just changed and went straight into one of the best Danish Source teams, and it's not like DK are bad at Source we are a top 3 country team wise.

I'm not sure of that, a few months ago shox played with D4 along with dim2k & mayers and I must say that his aim was just outstanding, he surprised all the 1.6 players of the teams that he faced even though he returned to source after the competition

You are so ignorant if you think fnatic or NaVi can be the best CSS team with little practice....ya VG was mid-level skilled players but that was like 3 years ago when NaVi and fnatic players were nothing more than mid-level 1.6 players same as VG....so your argument is invalid either way I have seen team VG play the old emL and -M- lineups and beat them on a regular basis

These aren't THAT great news at all.. It's obviusly that there was going to be CS 1.6 this year, the scene is still very active. However, the addition of CS:Source will cut the prizes for both games, and this affects the scene a lot.. some teams may not find participating in ESWC anymore if they keep cutting prizes.

its not the number of spectators that keep a E-game alive, those would be the sponsors.. but yeah the game its not dead, but its walking towards it :) oh and there is no need to name call :/

yeah lol thats why im saying it (sarcasm obviously) who cares about eps france and the gathering honestly? im saying because starcraft2 is taking over the scene, have tons of players all around the world and its a really good game as far as i heard.. valve should fight this sc2 grow with a new CS! otherwise 1 year 2 tops, its bye bye cs and hello SC2. for us oldschool players CS is the shit, but for this new kid generation its gonna be all about SC2, sadly.

Why would Valve ever work on a new cs again? They got burned once with a game which failed to live up to it's predecessor even when it had a TV network behind it with insane prizes. Also Portal was awesome.

I love both games.. but people need to realize CSS isn't a bad game. You guys have it in your mind that it is bad because you tried it once in the early stages of the game.. the game has evolved, has improved and is fantastic to spectate. Don't hate on it, this will only help esports grow, what's wrong with that?

+1, im 1.6 player, but my friend pushed me to play source because we got future in that, I very very hardly accepted it, Source is not bad game, its probably for me would be nr1 after 1.6, but 1.6 is still better, because ther if you own you will own like 1vs1 situations etc, but source is more like, you get HE granade from nowhere, someone spray you super randomly etc, and most important no wallbanging, its very very hard to move from 1.6 to source, thats why people playing 1.6 and will play till it dies...

I used to adamantly despise source, but CSS is a LOT better now than it used to be. Actually try playing it. Flashes/smokes make the game a lot more fun to play. Still has nothing on 1.6, but it's not garbage anymore. Plus, they are still working on it as we speak! It's only a shame that these updates weren't implemented a couple years ago when playing source was just a chore.

"Since Source has an increasingly active community, Games-Solution aims to satisfy the expectations of both players and spectators and maintain its level of excellence in the world of competitive gaming." Yeah right, 5 new players per year (? 1.6 at its stage is surely getting atleast 10 times the new players source is getting.

CS Community is never happy about anything, jesus. Should be happy there are still E-Sports events and be happy that they are having your game even in it. I don't care either way if CS is in it or not, but I'm happy there are still events for esports and cs. The addition of CSS is just an addition of another game, relax your game is still there and both communities can be happy. This whole community just complains that the game they love has been dominating for so long and they never want it to go away. We understand that you love 1.6, just because time change doesn't mean you need to play a different game, unless you wanna keep up with what the corporate sponsors want to sponsor and put prize money into.

Glad CS:S is there, absolutely great for that community, and what harm does it do? Thumbs down to all the 1.6 fans speaking out against Source for this tournament - what difference does it make to you? Mostly sounds spiteful/jealous that the lime-light has to be shared now! 1.6 also had to start somewhere before it was as big as it is now, and so CS:S has the right to. Maybe with more recognition and more tournaments like this it will grow even bigger and more popular in time.
