ESL opens Iberian League
The Electronic Sports League has announced the creation of a league for Portuguese and Spanish teams only.
The Iberian League will consist of 12 teams, six from Portugal and Spain, who will play in the same league format which the EPS leagues have been using for the past years.
Each country will organise an online qualifier, which will reward the teams who finish from first to third with places in the final league.
The top three teams from Portugal and Spain will receive a direct invite for the main competition and will thus not require to participate in the qualifiers.
The first season of the Iberian League will not feature any prize money, but the ESL has told HLTV.org that the competition will be treated very seriously, just like any EPS.
Should the first season, which will serve as a test to the stability of the teams and players, prove successful, then the other seasons are expected to start giving away prizes to the top contenders.
Registration for the Spanish and Portuguese online qualifiers will begin tomorrow, 29 March.
Stay tuned to HLTV.org for full coverage of the Iberian League.
