e-Stars to feature 16 teams

The e-Stars Seoul organisation has announced that this year's event will attract a total of 16 teams from around the globe.

The decision represents a huge increase in the number of the teams who will compete at the event, as the tournament traditionally gathered just six sides.

Frag eXecutors, last year's champion, are the only confirmed team for the event, which will run 19-21 August at the COEX D Hall in Seoul.

The four South Korean attendees will come through local qualifiers, while the last 11 participants (six from Europe, three from Asia and two from the Americas) will be decided through a mixture of fan voting and past achievements, both accounting for 50 per cent.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that a deal has been cut with MSI which will see the tournament change its name to e-Stars Seoul 2011 MSI Beat IT Championship. That is not the only consequence of the deal, though, as the prize purse has been increased from €47,000 to a figure in the excess of €54,000.

The candidates' list will be revealed in mid-May, while the fan voting will run from 23 May to 30 June on e-Stars' official website. After the tournament commitee has reviewed the teams' CV, the announcement of the final 16 teams will be made in early July.

It's not that big growing from 213k in 2010 to 220k in 2011. While this tourney now gathers twice more teams, which is a very great move if we speak about development.

it's only because they can't feature any Blizzard games this year due to some fallout between the Korean gaming union (or something like that) and Blizzard.

well the reason for their development in the CS tourney is only cause they can't make the normal WC3 tourney, though this would probably have been a SC2 tournament this year.

Russia = europe & asia but Moscow5 is a Moscow based team and Moscow belongs to the european part of Russia. wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/images/time/ru.. the lighter part is european russian and everything else is asian russia. besides, fx is already invited they are not among the 6 additional european teams who will also be invited

I think M5 and Iron Will should be near European teams. K23 isn't playing, they played only one event. So from Asia it should be Tyloo, project.kr/RedCode (if they still exists) and UMX-gaming. But if M5 and Iron Will coutns as Asian teams i think it is okay. And one more question. Can South Korean teams be between Asian teams? Or they should play in qualification and win spot in the tournament?

Teams must be spread across Europe cause it counts fan vote and past sucsess. There cant possibly be 4 teams from Sweden, maybe 3... Expect one Russian team cause of it large fan base.

I do not think e-sahara will be chosen, lions or mouz, or even moscow 5/iron will, are a more likely candidate (although I would love to see sixerinho compete, I prefer esahara > moscow5 aswell :P)

it's not about who is better. lions>esahara but there are already two sweden teams and esahara is better than mouz btw

yes indeed, but it is exactly like you said it. in e-stars, it is not about who is better. that is exactly the reason why a huge name like mouz has a big advantage over other teams, maybe even x6tence or kick has a shot I think iron will have a chance because of Lex, and moscow 5 because they are always at every big tournament pretty much, and seem to get invites no matter their shape or line-up. so I'd guess mouz or m5 gets esahara's spot (even though I'd prefer the frenc team, like I said :P)

Nice explanation and I agree. I think they will search for a team that plays often in big tournamnets, but still I don't understand why are you saying mouz. They don't play that often. I think that M5 will be chosen after all they played in last e-stars.

yaeh probably, I would think mouz for the "brandname" that is mouz also iron will playing under virtus pro tag increases their chances (but I still think m5 n mouz have the best chance)

I have no idea. I haven't heard any. Quite possibly, the CS scene in Singapore has died since TitaNs disbanded. (they even had sold their website). But their facebook group is still alive. They haven't taken it down yet. I guess that's because FB is free! =) I really don't see them making a comeback in International scene.
