Delpan: "We're just better"

Before the GameGune 2011 final between SK Gaming and ESC Gaming we took the opportunity to talk to SK's Marcus "Delpan" Larsson about the upcoming match.

SK's best rated player so far at this tournament, Marcus "Delpan" Larsson gave a short interview to HLTV.org while setting up for the final match of GameGune 2011 where his SK Gaming will meet an unexpected rival, ESC Gaming.

The maps were just decided with ESC picking de_inferno, while the potential second map would be de_train, which Larsson wasn't too much worried about:

"We start with de_inferno where I really like our CT side, our lockdown, and I hope it's only going to be one map."

The only time these two teams met before was at the ICSC 8 finals in Kiev a couple of weeks ago where SK Gaming easily came out as winners during group stage. Questioned whether they prefer this rival as opposed to playing Natus Vincere Larsson responded:

"We haven't played against them [in this tournament], so we want to beat them. We already beat Na´Vi, but I think it would be a much better game against Na´Vi because they are along with us the best team in the world."

ESC Gaming find themselves in the final, after an unexpectedly good performance despite having a stand-in and this is how Larsson explains why they made it:

"Of course they can play, of course they can aim, it's 100hz [monitors] here and they are 100hz players, probably many of them play at 100hz and CRT monitors at home, so they're good because of the monitors. The monitors can't decide the final of course, but they haven't played so good on TFT with 75hz; it's gonna be a good final I think."

If the monitors are an advantage for ESC, to question about what is SK's advantage, Larsson answers simply:

"We're just better."

SK Gaming will face ESC Gaming in the GameGune 2011 final at 17:00 and the winner will receive €12,000.

i just love how people take this so serious, this is counter strike, a game that wont be remembered in some years. ppl are saying the exact same thing for quite some years now and CS is actually stronger then ever. Prize pools are getting bigger and bigger, more and more teams are considered as title contenders, players are even signing contracts... so get your "it's just a game" crap some place else because these players are professional athletes and this game is, for them as well as for us fans, as serious as some actors role in a movie (since you are comparing this to hollywood)

i guess cs has never been so low-players as now, almost every league is dead or dont support 1.6 anymore and prizes are (the biggest one) like 12 or $15.000 actually. sk eol and nip used to take much more than that at cpl 9 or 10 years ago.

you are both wrong and right. prize pools are small, but if you watch that globally, if a team can play in 10 tournaments every year with 15k$ as average 1st place prize, that is way better then winning one tournament worth 30k$ out of four... more tournaments means more money, more locations means more fans.. more fans means stronger community :D it's quite simple actually as far as skill level goes, guess you haven't watched last few tournaments where top spot had at least 5 contenders. Every player on every role evolved so much last few years, just look at MVP award, every tournament different player wins it. and to go back and take a closer look at sk eol and nip, now days you simply can't win every match during whole year just because too many teams are on such a high level, and that's a fact. back in 2001 (for example), you'd have one team in 1st place and only 1 contender at most... sorry but i don't agree with you at all and who cares if france for instance has no EPS, or brasil for that matter as well, their league would be dominated by one team... same thing in croatia, for that matter

If this was ESC's current level, every other team better watchout. This Hz talk will evaporate once someone gets their asses handed to them. Saying the truth doesn't always mean you are being "just" honest. Here is an example for you. Delpan is a better sniper than most players. Lets say before some match, delpan says: "I am a better sniper than you. You are probably going to lose." Isn't that the truth? Yes it is. So, he just said the truth, but thats not being honest, every idiot out there can tell, thats being arrogant. The same applies here. Before a match (or after) you should show respect to your opponent. That comes along with good education, at least thats what my perents told me when they educated me. Maybe I just received the wrong kinda education.
